If so. It is said to be permanent, because the permanent does not have the nature of cause and effect, then how can its particularity become the nature of the one to be taught and the teacher? If it is said that it does not arise dependently, then is it taught because it is related to the habit of arising? Answer: 'From the previous abiding.' This is said. Why? Because that which abides as before does not become a habit, because there is no difference. How can it become a habit in the aspect of the momentary? Answer: 'Similar to the previous.' This is said, it is similar to the moment of knowledge, and it is also different, therefore this becomes the habit of the previous knowledge. If the moment itself is similar, how is it? Answer: 'It is also a moment.' This is said. If it is a moment, because it is destroyed as soon as it is born. By what does the habit become the one to be taught and the teacher itself? And how does it become the creator of the fruit? Answer: 'Consciousness.' This is said. If that is not what was asked, how can it be the answer? Answer: 'Without following.' This is said. At that time, 'the previously existing', although the difference of the previously existing time is not contradictory, but the later mind does not have it, then how is it similar at that time? It should be observed in this way. This is not a negation, it is said. If the previous knowledge is a habit because of following, then at that time, when the mind of the cow becomes the mind of the elephant after the mind of the cow, because of the inconsistency, because there is no following, will the mind of the cow not become the habit of the mind of the elephant? To this it is said: Even if the mind of the other cow is interrupted, the previous mind of the elephant is the reason why the later mind of the elephant depends on it. However, since the mind of the elephant is very interrupted, how can it become a habit? Answer: 'It is the accomplisher of abiding.' This is said. Then is the mind of the elephant born from that? Answer: 'Through the knowledge of the elephant.' This is said. Then where does the mind of the cow in the middle come from? Answer: 'In the middle.' This is said. Thus, after temporarily establishing the habits that one desires, the habits desired by Master Dharmottara and others are the nature of the previous consciousness.

Because it has transformed. If it is said that in the previous consciousness, all the imprints will be destroyed, then there will be the fault of saying "one is destroyed." If one is destroyed, then its powers will also be destroyed. If that is the case, when a flower in rock candy water withers, from where does the red fruit arise? If it is said that the red fruit arises from seeds and sprouts, etc., and not from the flower, then it is said to be the seed. How does red arise from something dissimilar to the red fruit? This is related. If the seeds, etc., are also produced by the red flower, and gradually become the producer of the fruit, then it is said to be "here." For that reason, it is not reasonable that the consciousness that arises from all these imprints, possessing all forms, should be destroyed in a single moment. If the basis of the powers is destroyed, then the powers will inevitably be destroyed. If consciousness is destroyed, then the powers must also be destroyed. Even so, if it is thought that all consciousness will be destroyed, then it is said to be "showing." If it is thought that power will become permanent, then it is said to be "powers are different," because it is not different from consciousness. If, like the cause of consciousness, the continuum of imprints may also exist, then from both imprints and consciousness, multiple consciousnesses should be produced at the same time. The answer to this is "those with imprints." The continuum of imprints is not desired, because imprints are powers, and powers do not continuously arise like seeds, etc. Now, if someone says that consciousness arises from imprints, and imprints also arise from consciousness, therefore it will become a mutually dependent cause, then it is said that manifest consciousness arises from imprints, and imprints also arise from other consciousnesses, consciousness and imprints are the same, but they never act on each other at the same time. If imprints are what produce similar consciousness, then when blue consciousness arises from yellow consciousness, yellow consciousness will not become an imprint, because it is dissimilar.
