The understanding of faith also arises from unobstructed habit. Therefore, what is the use of examining non-things other than things? If the reason for the wisdom of understanding non-things is non-things, then this wisdom is also unreasonable in other respects, and what is the use of non-things now? If it is said that because there is a measure called "non-thing," there must inevitably be its measurable object, then this is what is called "non-thing." If the measure and the measurable of non-things are impossible, then things will become mutually opposed. If anything does not become inconsistent with non-things because of anything, such as a vase having the nature of a vase, then the answer to this is "because it is different from that." If it is thought that there is difference, then what is the measure? That is what is called "difference." At that time, because the later arising thing is produced by its power, it is distinguished by the thing of reason. If it is thought that the measure of non-things understands non-things, is it not obvious? Therefore, if it is thought how can the measure of non-things not exist? The measure of non-things is my action. The so-called "each" refers to what is separately determined by the arguer himself. Because of similarity, the meaning is the same. If it is thought that this itself becomes the measure of non-things, then (in the scriptures) it is said that "unobtainability is also." Just as what is not grasped by direct perception, clinging to the part of non-things, non-things are other measures, similarly, because of clinging to the hiddenness that is not grasped by direct perception, memory also becomes other measures. However, when the hiddenness of someone is understood, then it is understood through subsequent inference, because direct perception does not involve inference. If it is said that therefore it is necessary to understand hiddenness, that is what is called "inference." The meaning is that inference is applied from the beginning of grasping hiddenness. To explain the latter half, the debater will say "if you think like this." Therefore, the so-called "this" is the characteristic of the application of inference. The arising inference clings to fire, and what must be determined is that the so-called "that" is inference.

Previously, no one definitively held that something hidden in the past was existent. If it is said that reliance is necessary in all cases, how can that be explained? It is said in the scriptures, "to make a connection." Therefore, if inference arises, then sometimes it is necessary to rely on the certainty of hidden things, but in that case, it would not become a connector, that is his thought. The characteristic of a cause is merely that it follows and that it ceases. If it is said that memory is definitely to be done by inference, then it is said, "through inference." "If it is not so" means, if the object of inference becomes the scope of memory's activity. The phrase "through memory" is to answer a question. "Then" is the conclusion. If memory does not understand what exists at that time, then what is it that should be understood as hidden at that time, that is the meaning. "Previous seer" means, for example, if memory understands that the fire seen is hidden, then, saying this is "then." "The end of that time" refers to the end of the previous time. "Because it is not other," means that the hidden thing that exists at the time of inference is not understood by memory. Even so, what is the function of memory? Because the hiddenness of the object of inference is not understood, that is his thought. "Through memory" is used to answer a question. The statement for this is "memory enters." Describing the manner of analysis is "what." If it is thought that even if it cannot be obtained, it will enter, then it is "having understanding." "Otherwise" refers to not having something to obtain. The statement for the second distinction is "for the present time." Because of that reason, how can memory be valid cognition? Clarifying the meaning of what was said itself is "previous." "That" refers to the meaning of the previous time. Directly grasping the hidden thing itself, showing "through direct." "Of time" refers to the time that is happening now. "Its way" refers to hidden
