That which leads to other interpretations of the Pramāṇavārttika is the word "however." The word "at that time" refers to the time of experiencing happiness. The absence of happiness is not knowledge, it is not possessed of the aspect of apprehending consciousness, but whatever is the cause of consciousness is itself the cause of happiness and so forth. "That" refers to the cause of consciousness. "Not that" refers to dharma and so forth. "That itself" refers to the fact that the cause of consciousness is the cause of happiness and so forth. What shows that dharma and so forth are themselves the cause is the word "happiness is." "To that" refers to desire and aversion, dharma and non-dharma. "Without reversal" means that the result is without reversal. Therefore, dharma and so forth are not capable of acting on happiness and so forth alone. Then, on what are they capable of acting? "Desire" refers to the accomplishment, that is, the cause. Explaining that itself is the word "dharma and so forth are." What accomplishes that is what accomplishes happiness and so forth. "Therefore" means that even if all the causes gather, the result is reversed. "From that" means from the gathering of suffering and so forth. It is thought that when suffering arises, happiness does not arise because there is no cause. "From another" means from non-dharma. "Therefore" means from dharma or non-dharma. "Distinct" means happiness or suffering. "To you" means to the one who is reasonable. Stating that itself is the word "from happiness and so forth." "That is happiness, from the foot itself" means from the mere equanimity that is free from happiness and suffering. Because there are only those different causes, one cannot necessarily be established as different. "That itself" refers to consciousness. "Distinguished" refers to the nature of happiness. When non-dharma and so forth are helpful, because of what is left over, therefore the collection is distinguished by the characteristic of the cause of consciousness. The statement about this is "that collection itself," that is, the collection of consciousness itself. "The seed of Emblica" refers to the nature of the author's words. "From that" means from the nature of Emblica. "Other distinctions" refers to sweetness and so forth. "However" is welcoming and preventing doubt, that is, it is not.

The word "no" here is to prevent the meaning of the word "also," because if it is said that "difference also arises," then it becomes implied that "non-difference also arises." In that case, happiness and so on will not be shown to be entirely different from consciousness alone. What shows this is the word "if." Furthermore, if happiness arises as matter merely because of the excess of dharma and so on, then wisdom and so on would also be similarly flawed, because they arise from dharma and so on. What is said is "furthermore." "Those also" refers to wisdom and so on. "Of those" refers to happiness and so on. "Whatever accomplishes desires and so on is very close." The statement for this is "if that is so," because it has been promised that it arises from its cause, which is dharma and so on. The cause of happiness and so on, which is the cause of dharma and so on, whatever continuum has wisdom and so on, that is called that. So, what is it that has the cause of dharma and so on? Whatever arises happiness from having wisdom, that is what has the cause of dharma and so on. Relying on dharma, it will not change from anything else. Many people practice wisdom and so on, but one cannot accomplish wisdom and so on in everything from practice.

Palão. It should not be said that happiness is caused by the Dharma of a previous life. Rather, it should be regarded that happiness and so on are due to the nature of the Dharma that exists simultaneously with it. If that is the case, then if Dharma produces Dharma's happiness and so on without habits and so on, then Dharma has no power. If it becomes powerful, then it is not so, that is his thought. Because habit is prior, the word "also" is a refutation. Because from the cause that has discriminating consciousness, that is, the cause of consciousness that arises from consciousness, is the past time, so it is said. What I have seen is this, like this recognizing its own nature, if it comes from previous actions, then, does this, born from previous actions, exist in happiness and so on? Happiness and so on, are only not produced from previous actions, this is his thought. "This" refers to previous actions. The so-called "consciousness itself of mind" refers to "those born from the senses", referring to those who think they are born from the senses. "From itself" refers to from habit itself. "Holding it" refers to holding happiness and so on. The explanation of the first half is "other and another". If someone thinks when will it become a habit? If that is the case. "This meaning exists in this meaning", this is saying "the meaning is". "For one" refers to for another. The meaning is also the same, therefore for it, again and again asking "again" what is the meaning, in order to eliminate this doubt, so it is said "the meaning is". "Object" refers to, how to know that the meaning is the same? Because for mutually different things, there is no recognition of the same nature. How to establish that the object is the same? This is its meaning. If it is said that it is recognized as the same through recognition, then, for happiness and so on, it is said "this". "Because it is the same" refers to because the object is the same. "Recognition is" refers to the established conclusion. "Because the objects are also different, so there it appears like recognition", this is his thought. Even so, this object is only one, therefore, there recognition is reasonable, if someone thinks like this, then for different recognitions
