Because the nature of wisdom is not contradictory, therefore, after hearing the phrase "because it does not rely on the senses," abandoning the thought that other things are contradictory, and asking about it: Then, is this "fame" of Dharmakīrti not fame? To explain this passage in order to show the opponent's contradiction: The senses themselves are pleasure and displeasure, and the word "pleasure" and so on means that the senses themselves are the cause of pleasure and so on, which should be grasped by the senses, and it also expresses that pleasure and so on appear to arise. The so-called "saying so" refers to the senses themselves. Even so, pleasure and so on are only mind, so there is no contradiction with the scriptures. When others point this out, someone with sectarian views asks: If that is the case. In this scripture, in order to prove that the consciousness of the senses has no object, it is also intended to show that it itself is uncertain due to the power of habituation. Also, when the consciousness of pleasure and so on is only mind, and it itself is also the consciousness of the senses, because it has the aspect of definite meaning, it will only become an object with an object. Even so, because the meaning of the occasion is not proven, it is thought that according to your statement, this scripture will only become meaningless. Here, the other party says: It is not like that. There, it is not thought that various different aspects arise merely through the power of habituation of the mind, but because it is an approximate representation, the consciousness of the senses also arises approximately through the power of habituation, and it is thought of in many aspects such as appearance. Therefore, it is thought that this also only shows no object. If it is considered reasonable that the co-operators of habituation, such as the eyes, are themselves the producers of consciousness, then pleasure and so on will also become senses, because they are also experienced as being produced by the co-operators of habituation, such as the eyes. For what purpose is this book written for those who expound the scriptures without possessing the oral instructions? Therefore, it is thought that it is enough to focus on expressing it in words, and then it ends.

That which is expressed by the extreme of the expressible is also called sense consciousness. It is considered that it is not like this, not like happiness, etc. If, like happiness, etc., consciousness with such characteristics also arises together with habituation, and is produced from causes such as the eye, then it should become produced from the senses, and not from the mind. Thinking in this way, it is said, "If that is so, then." "This is not prohibited." It is only the power of habituation that understands this, not the senses. If it is not so, then how, for those with habituation, can consciousness with the characteristics of happiness, etc., arise only from the functioning of things like the eye? If it also happens here in the same way, then it should not be so. The function of the senses is that immediately after the arising of sense consciousness, the signs of this, etc., are experienced. Therefore, this is the mind, not produced from the senses, because it does not follow its presence or absence. What is called "in the same way" is the function of the mind. How should the understanding of that mind not be applied to hidden places? It should be connected in this way. What is called "now" is the consciousness with that characteristic. What is called "following it" is what is produced by it. What others say about this is "it is," that is, the second moment. The answer is "of the eye." If you ask how you know that only sense consciousness can grasp, then it is said, "It is also like that." It is what is seen by sense consciousness. What is called "how is it a condition" is the condition of the mind. If it is said that the previous sense consciousness is the immediate condition of the same kind, then it is said, "of oneself." What proves the previous time is "object." What is not a cause does not become an object. If you think that even so, it should be simultaneous with your own consciousness, then it is said, "Cause also." Previously it was the result, what is absent is the cause, it should become that. What was previously without a cause also has no power. Or, if you think that even at the time of the result, the result does not exist, so it has power, then it is said, "If." If nose
