That which is called "is" is direct perception. "That" eliminates the very nature of discrimination, here. "Why is that?" Because direct perception is the nature of manifestation. "Does mere manifestation lead to further attachment?" The answer is, "Mere manifestation is." "In that very nature" means in the very nature of further attachment. "The opposite of that" is the opposite of manifestation. "Explained" refers to the teacher Vasubandhu. "These" refers to the five aggregates of consciousness. "The own-characteristic of a thing" refers to the own-characteristic of an atom. "This" refers to the own-characteristic of aggregates, and so on. "Therefore, there is no contradiction in being an object-possessor." "Now, will it become associated with discrimination?" The answer is, "Whatever." "Then, what is it that, in order to eliminate, is said to be free from discrimination, and what is said to be associated with discrimination?" The answer is, "Relying on what is known to others." This refers to others, those who are reasonable, and so on. "The discrimination of recollection" refers to a form like "This is what was seen before," which is characterized by the nature of "thinking it is blue," and so on. "That" refers to the very discrimination that has become like that. "Difficult to reverse" refers to being associated with discrimination itself. "Only at one time," if one thinks that one cannot see many at the same time, the answer is, "Knowledge." Thus, if one thinks that at one time one cannot grasp many atoms, in order to establish non-discrimination by establishing discrimination, one doubts whether the atoms are a single substance with parts, so "blue is either this or that," and so on. "The statement about this is, how is it possible that one consciousness does not grasp many things? And how is it possible that it has one part? Because it grasps simultaneously, it has parts, but if it were not so, because it is one mind, how could it act on many?" If one thinks like this, the answer is, "Sesame." "Attention" refers to the fact that only the previous attention is called mind itself, and there is no other mind. That is also consciousness.
