DTG185 0001.The Explanation of the Ornament of Valid Cognition, Extremely Pure, named Jamari..g2.0f

English

That which is called being related to mere habitual tendencies is the negation of certainty. Why? Because it is said to be a habitual tendency, it is also a sign of awakening. Even so, how is it related to the meaning? The meaning is related to that which awakens the habitual tendencies, because it is the cause. This itself is called being related to the meaning. If the meaning is not measured by one's own understanding, how is it that there is no connection there? It is said that it is not seen. Or if again, whatever is not understood by its own nature, even if it is measured by others, that also exists, from where does it come? If one doubts that the chief, etc., are understood in that way, but do not exist, it is said that they are not seen. Avoiding the extreme of seeing one's own nature and understanding it from others is called 'if,' the subject of proof that depends on the property, or the property that is related to the proving property where the smoke is, that is certainty itself, that is, if it is certain, then it is to make others understand, not just anyone who becomes too extreme. One's own nature is called explanation. The relation is with the subject and the to-be-established, etc. What fault is there in understanding from whatever distinguishes the relation? It is said to be to others, therefore it is understood only from what is related, not just others by their own nature. Therefore, the explanation 'if the basis' is called the subject, and 'that' is called the to-be-established. Here, the dispute of 'how' itself is explained as 'from relation.' 'Also from similarity' is called 'from no relation.' That extreme itself is called what is said to be understood only from others. Because it is seen to be just like that, the answer is explained as 'no.' Why? The effort and diligence that will be explained, and the sound of 'etc.' seeing similarities that are not related, etc., the memory produced by those is inconsistent with other inferences, because it is produced, that itself is said to be, 'This is the place, this exists,' that place where the changing aspect distinguished by place, etc., exists

Thus it is said. Inference is the opposite of this, said to be the object, meaning that one remembers a particular thing and then follows it. If one thinks, from where does the memory of inquiry come? Then it is said that it is the basis. It comes from the sign related to that which is to be proven and its basis. What is to be explained here is the subject and the dharma to be proven. From effort and so on, this is explaining the first half, which is related to the realization of the thing that is capable. Why? It is said thus. The so-called "that" is because of effort. The so-called "from that" is because of grasping what has already been grasped. Or the memory generated by similar seeing is valid cognition, because the doubt comes from grasping the similarity. The so-called "cow," like a cow, after hearing the indicative word, grasps in the rock, and from seeing a cow similar to a cow, one knows that this cow is similar to that cow, this is proximate measure. If so, how is it not valid cognition? Then it is said that similarity itself. The so-called object and special time refer to the cow. The so-called "anytime," because it is a near reference, can also become "everywhere." Why are objects and so on also uncertain? Then it is said "many," that is, variegated and white objects and so on. Knowing the hidden thing similar to this means that it is not certain even by its own nature. If one thinks that dissimilar things are certain objects and so on, then it is said "other," that is, many things such as pots and blankets. If so, the objects and so on are determined separately, because it is not the reason for knowing similarity or dissimilarity, therefore knowing similarity is not valid cognition. Just like looking at a cow, because one cannot establish many dissimilarities, and the knowledge of dissimilarity is the proximate taking of the special characteristics of objects and so on, therefore it is not valid cognition, and similarly the knowledge of similarity is also the same. The seen cow also does this, or by other similar things, this is clearly direct perception, if it is not so, then there will be no entry, this is saying that it is similar to the previously seen cow that is being seen.

It is necessary to ascertain the milkable cow, and the so-called "cow" refers to the situation. Therefore, the visible cow, doing that thing, the grasping of similarity arising from the habitual power of doing that thing, is itself direct perception. The so-called "if it is not like that" means not grasping similarity. The so-called "is valid cognition" means not direct perception. This explains that because of grasping similarity, inference is the same as direct perception, and it will be said that, explained as "from the perspective of relatedness." The so-called "like that" means from the perspective of grasping similarity itself. If it is also said that even if it does not grasp like that by its own nature, but the connection with that is only conceptualization, the so-called "from the perspective of separation" refers to the subject and the to-be-established, etc. The tone of the word "also" is in order, and it is also the nature of inference. Or it means to ascertain the state as it is. If the object without harm, etc., is also not the nature of the sign, then why say "from the perspective of relatedness"? The relatedness of the dharma and the to-be-established is the nature of the sign, because the result, etc., is that, and the so-called object without harm, etc., is not, that is what is said. Because the result, etc., the sign is that, it refers to where the nature of the subject, the to-be-established, and the relatedness constantly exist? Because one wants to become the understander of the thing itself, therefore, apart from that nature, the nature of the object without harm, etc., does not exist because it has already clearly appeared elsewhere. If even so, how does inference become grasping similarity? It is said, "of the tree." In a certain example, doing the thing of the tree, or seeing the smoke, etc., produced by fire, one would think that is this, supplementing that the cause of the smoke, etc., is taken out from that, as well as the fruit of Shapa, etc. Therefore, it is also said, "meaning." For Shapa, etc. Because it exists, it is not momentary, and here it is also said that it is the understanding of similarity. The so-called "nature of impermanence." The other refers to other things. If from the result, it is the understanding of similarity.
