Those are the connections that relate outwards, the detachment from desire that has abandoned annihilation, the falling away from the second fruit due to dull faculties, the death transference of falling away from a group of equal fate, which is the meaning of what is called death, and the various existences that completely grasp other births. The immediately preceding nature of consciousness, the sixth sense, is present. The consciousness that relies solely on it is the consciousness of mind, and because it does not rely on the eye and so forth, it is conceptual thought. Regarding the difference between death transference and birth explained here: 'In equanimity, there is birth and death.' This means that when there is conceptual thought in a state of equanimity, it becomes death and birth, as explained in the Abhidharmakosha. Furthermore, if there is conceptual thought of existence, it is certain that it completely grasps birth. Thus, it is established that conceptual thought itself is samsara. The remainder is incidental. Explaining it is why it is said to be 'mind.' Depending on the context, it is the meaning of 'conceptual thought.' It does not rely on the elements that have become the nature of the eye and so forth, because relying on them would not be suitable for samsara. In the Pramanavarttika, it is also said that mind does not rely on the form of the body with senses, which is the elements, but rather the elements themselves rely on it, and therefore it is said to be samsara. For beginners, it is only a matter of combining learning. If, in a state of dwelling in bliss, conceptual thoughts of mental bliss and so forth arise from experiencing bliss and so forth, how is it not dependent on the elements? Because if it changes, it will change. The answer is, 'It is said thus,' it is just that kind of reasoning. If asked how, the answer is, some explanation is that what the consciousness is to transform is because it relies on the body that has become the nature of the aggregate of the five senses. This is what is being said: in your school, what is shown by the result of consciousness is also the result of consciousness from the lineage, so the realization of it is established by the reasoning that has already been stated. Therefore, the lineage

In the place of..., the aspect of consciousness arises dependent on the previous consciousness itself. However, if it is said that it also depends on the body, then the body also depends on the mind in the same way, so there is no end. The aspect of consciousness is just like that. The so-called "other" refers to the state of hesitation. Because seeing the other, it is not from the fire itself. The senses do not see anything other than the transformations made by the consciousness. Therefore, the eye and so on are only from the consciousness. To clarify this, it is said, "All the senses and so on." Therefore, it is thought that it depends only on the aspect of consciousness. Smoke is from the fire itself. There is no direct perception (pramana). It is said that this is the only reason, because direct perception does not arise from other places and times. In conventional truth, for example, just as one recognizes smoke as preceding fire, similarly, in the present case, one also recognizes the aspect of consciousness as preceding, which is praised by way of conclusion, that is, "therefore." For example, what is completely seen is the recognition that smoke is another, unifying, meaning clinging to everything as one. The first birth is the body of infancy. The state of the eye and so on that arises there is recognized as a transformation of the mind. Connecting the recognition of the eye and so on to those. If asked how to recognize them, the answer is that they are in accordance with the mind with wavering and so on, and transform into aspects. Those senses are just like that, meaning the transformation of the aspect of consciousness. Its result is the result of fire, meaning smoke. Because seeing the transformation of the aspect of consciousness in that way is unerring, it is from consciousness. In the senses of son and so on, that is, dependent on it. However, if the eyes of son and so on disappear, the mind will certainly not change, so thinking that it does not depend on it, the answer is that neither case is certain. Thus it is said. Explaining this is, "If."
