The chapter on the connection of grounds is complete. If, like being free from craving, there is existence but no karma, etc., then it would only become incomplete in its causes. To entertain such doubts and welcome them is: "If that is the case, then." Existence is the opposing side of seeing selflessness, but not karma, etc. The answer to this is: "Karma and body." Even if there is an antidote, if there is a seed of craving, karma will only change into something else. This is said as: "Because it is powerless." Speaking in reliance on karma, etc., that will arise is: "Without realizing the reversal of craving." If one thinks, 'Is it understood from the scriptures that something other than selflessness contradicts karma and the body?' It is also said. If one thinks that even if there is craving, karma does not arise, then it is said that craving and connection are. From that are craving, etc. Then, if one thinks that the exhaustion of both must be accomplished, it is said: "Even if one strives for the meaning of exhausting both." If, like fire to cold, the moon rises for the sake of exhausting karma, then isn't the suffering of eating and hair growth, etc., becoming an antidote? Therefore, how could it become without an antidote? Welcoming this necessity, it is said: "Like this." Because of seeing various fruits, the very nature of happiness and suffering, etc., as objects of many fruits, cannot be otherwise, so it is inferred that the powers of karma are different. For this reason, the afflictions of asceticism, having become one nature, and the fruit having been analyzed, it is not reasonable to think that the power of karmas with various powers will be exhausted. Like this, since karma is the ultimate of fruit, the nature of approaching suffering is that suffering will destroy the very karma that has its fruit, but not others, that is the thought. Making the meaning that has already been said the ultimate of distinction is called "the afflictions of asceticism." If, even having done extremely unpleasant deeds, one becomes disgusted by blaming oneself. From thorough confession and taking vows, I will say that those are destroyed from the root. Because it is said like this, don't you also think that the karmas that have already been done will also be exhausted? Then, how can one think that karma will not be exhausted? For what reason is it said like this? My tenet.

The fruit produced by cursing me and thoroughly confessing, etc., will become small, or it will be exhausted by the occasion, but it is not produced by other different types of actions. Suffering the pain of experiencing the fruit of any action, the fruit produced by this will become small or exhausted, but it is not produced by different types of actions, it will not become small or exhausted, this is the explanation made. That explanation is the phrase "the fruit is suffering." What is called "power mixing," if the fruit of merit is also exhausted simply because of suffering the fruit of sin, what should be done? By the power of asceticism. If you ask where the power comes from, it is said that it comes from some afflictions. Like this, if the power is mixed and exhausted, what will it become? It becomes residual, and after becoming residual, it becomes thin. What will it become like that? It will be abandoned. From where will it be abandoned? From the absence of afflictions or from the part of afflictions. The explanation of "if" and so on is to show this previous view. If it is admitted that asceticism has power, then at that time, the action with fruit, becoming residual through power mixing, etc., will become without afflictions or will be abandoned, this is the previous view. If asceticism is different from pulling hair and the moon rising, etc., then, the creation of merit and wisdom such as generosity and discipline, and confession and taking vows, etc., are just as you say, which is what is desired, because it is not a part of afflictions, this is what is said, "if." If, like generosity and discipline, etc., the five sufferings, etc., are not themselves asceticism, if you ask "is it affliction itself," the answer is that affliction is the result of karma, but it is not asceticism. Because of that reason, it is gathered as the result of karma. Afflictions produced by prior thought, separated from generosity, etc., are also the result of karma. It is not karma like generosity, etc. If it is thought to be karma from the scriptures, then it is not liberation, because karma is related to the result.
