Thus it is said. That which is called connecting in another way, is to say "or." With regard to what is said as "to what," it is connected as "this is not here." It is a doubt whether or not to abandon the realm of detachment. The example of establishing in another is called "like myself." What clarifies the meaninglessness of meditation is called "by meditating on suffering." If one thinks, "If there is no practical use, what is the use of that?" it is "how?" Meditating on suffering is not universal liberation. This is the meaning of that. Meditating on suffering is not actually free from attachment, but rather it arises from making that suffering abide in the mind. That which abides in the mind is also present in the individual at all times, so what is the use of closely showing the meditation on suffering? It shows that even if one examines it, it is easy to know, that is, those individuals called "those" are only suffering even by closely showing the meditation on suffering. If it is established by suffering, and that which follows suffering is discernment, that is, understanding, from the close showing of self-nature, it is also what was previously manifested. From that close showing of not being detached from attachment, it also does not cause detachment, because that is only a subsequent statement. Previously, one has become detached from attachment, and since there is no realm of detachment, it is said that meditation is meaningless. If that is the case, then it is said that there is no accomplishment of detachment. We contemplate the suffering of conditioned existence, and because we abandon what should be taken and what should be abandoned, the equality of sandalwood and ox-head becomes detachment, therefore we meditate. This is called saying that it is not the cause of detachment. What clarifies this is called "meditating on suffering." If it is not like that, then it is not the cause of manifestation. If it is not like that, then suffering is not manifest. Even if it is like that, that is, even though suffering is manifest. To dispel the doubt that meditating on suffering is meaningful, that is, if suffering. Likewise, meditating on happiness

The answer, thinking, "Will it become desire?" means "It is not so." Therefore, it means relying on discerning the collection of happiness. If all the happiness in samsara is the root of suffering, isn't it suffering itself? Like this, striving for happiness, through accomplishing it, etc., actually manifests constant suffering as happiness and presumes it to be so. Therefore, doubting, "The practice of suffering is what the sages taught," the answer is, "If it is extremely peaceful." Practicing suffering will not lead to craving for the happiness of samsara, this is the connection. The answer, thinking, "One who is attached to self, even if practicing suffering, because there is attachment to self, will not reverse the weak attachment to self," means "It is not so either." Peaceful liberation is not the cause of being weary of the happiness of samsara. If one thinks that contemplating extremely peaceful happiness is the cause of being weary of samsara itself, that is the place of the charnel ground. From where does this come? It is called a crow, and a crow is similar to attachment to self. The lotus forest is similar to liberation. The impure place is similar to samsara. If one says, even one who is attached to self, because seeing some as the root of suffering, isn't it seeing detachment from desire? The answer is, in the same way, everything will also change, eliminating doubts through "if" etc., and then answering through "if to him." What clarifies it is "like this." The power of desire is attachment to self. The connection is that one will never be free from desire. The phrase "with the wisdom of the noble ones" is specifically stated in order to sever the wisdom related to self-grasping. The cause of destroying taking and abandoning is the view of no-self, not self-grasping, this is the meaning. Seeing desire in different ways, finally showing it by summarizing, therefore it says "therefore." For those who speak of self, the three realms are to be abandoned, while the self and its dharma are to be taken. For what is to be taken, attachment to it is also beneficial.
