The explanation for this is: If someone says that even if it is admitted to be different, there will be no desired result, then what will it become? It will become nothing. If someone doubts that if it is different, then it will be possible to abandon attachment, then the difference of attachment will be abandoned. If attachment is different, then abandonment is because one sees the faults of the object, and not for other reasons, the answer to this is "this object". Attachment is the object of this. Attachment will abandon it. In order to show the relevant reasoning, first explain: "By other object". "By other fault" means the fault that is different from me. "Object fault to attachment" means to me. "The cause of happiness" means to me and so on. If attachment is considered to be other things such as clothes, then is it not taken and abandoned by hatred? If someone doubts what is the relationship between this and the faults of the object, then it is said "merit fault". In order, what is the abandonment and rejection of desire and hatred etc. related to merit fault? If someone asks, it is because there is no failure to see the merits and faults of the object. Because one does not see the merits of the object, one abandons attachment; because one does not see the faults, one generates hatred. The cause of the nature of not seeing the merits and faults of the object, the birth of the nature of non-birth, is abandonment. For external objects such as external vases that depend on external causes, if taking and abandoning by seeing merits and faults is obvious, then this method is also unreasonable for clinging. If someone says "those", it means that the object does not lack the accomplishment of my happiness etc. The object of clinging is me and mine. Its essence is just that, it is related to possessing merit. Because there is no it, there is no possessing merit. If someone says that this way of object is unreasonable for clinging, then it is "the merit of clinging". In order to clarify what the external way is, it is "attachment merit". After stating the reasoning, apply it to the present, which is "the characteristic of seeing me and mine".

Therefore, the attachment of viewing the result as "I" to that which has no incomplete cause is unavoidable, that is its meaning. By "associated with merits and faults" and so on, it indicates the meaning of "attachment does not arise from merits." And the statement "attachment to the faultless 'I', there is also a cause for separation," indicates the meaning of "for that which has no incomplete cause, what result can prevent it?" They said that it was a verse composed for the purpose of summarizing, so it was said. However, as said, this is not the true meaning of the doctrine. Because the phrase "to the faultless 'I'" is expressed with the thought that there is no difference between "viewing as I" and "attachment"; and the phrase "that which has no incomplete cause" is expressed with the thought that there is a difference. Having the fault of attachment is itself the cause of suffering, is itself the basis of suffering, and because it is a collection of suffering, it is also the same as "I." Because "I" is the subject who knows all things that accomplish happiness and enjoys its results. Therefore, just like "I," attachment, because it is the object of the view of "I-ness," will not become an object free from desire, that is what "attachment also has faults" expresses. However, if "I" also knows that it is the maker of suffering and enjoys its results, and therefore wishes to become an object free from attachment, then, for those who wish to be liberated, since it has no other self-nature, how can one know "I," think about "I," and meditate on "I"? If it is recognized that it should be abandoned, then the view of no-self will become the tool of liberation. In order to dispel the doubt that someone might think that "I" is the cause of suffering, it is explained by way of metaphor, that is "the basis of suffering." The statement "'I' exists" refers to the cause of the collection, or the knower and doer of all things. If it is said that the suffering arising from attachment and so on is not only gathered on "I," and "I" is not the cause of suffering, because if it exists, it would not know that it exists, in order to dispel this doubt, it is said "however."
