In verses, the first way is mainly to establish the (existence) of suffering, which is what is called "of suffering." If someone asks, what is the meaning of saying this? (Answer) "Other" is said. "Other" refers to without cause. If someone asks, then how can it be occasional? (Answer) "For those with cause" is said. If someone asks, then what is the reason for the causeless? (Answer) "Causeless" is said. Or, "other self-change" refers to the state of non-existence. Who said that? If someone asks, has anyone seen causeless things like this? (Answer) For example, for those with eye diseases, the knowledge of sounds, etc., is separated from the cause of the object, just like everything that arises from tiny seeds, suffering is also the same, if it is separated from the cause, it will change like that, which is what is called "how." "Hair, etc." is cut off here. If someone asks, how can it be constant? (Answer) "Even without an object" is said. Or, because the cause is uncertain, it is causeless. For example, the Dharmadhatu is eternally existent, and suffering will change like that, which is what is called "Self-awareness can realize." "Self-awareness" refers to valid cognition. "Therefore" refers to taking emptiness as the object, without conceptualization, just like dreaming. One's own nature is valid even in dreams. The nature of Dharmadhatu, which is free from the grasped and the grasper, should also be realized by it. This is also because of uncertainty, so it is causeless, and it is arising and will arise. Because it pervades the present time, it is eternally existent. Therefore, it is not occasional. Why is impermanence itself causeless because the cause is uncertain, and not occasional? "Becoming non-existent" refers to explaining it as the son of a barren woman, etc. If suffering does have a cause, it is only the nature of the four great elements, not the nature of ignorance, craving, and karma, etc., nor the nature of Ishvara, etc. If the four great elements are the cause, then it will not hinder the establishment of the next life, because the first craving mind will follow the formations, thereby causing other thoughts to arise.

Even if other self-natured worlds are established, since the states of happiness and suffering, etc., are merely caused by the great elements, the argument that the causes of karma, etc., which are mental, will not be established, what is the matter? For example, since the dharma is produced only from the elements that produce it, there is no cause with consciousness. Similarly, in order to manifest the differences such as happiness and suffering of sentient beings existing in other self-natured worlds, these also become causeless, because they are not causes with consciousness. Therefore, some say that they vehemently proclaim causelessness. Actions by nature, etc., are explained by things like arrows and spears. The differences therein are explained by things like even without blacksmiths, etc. The meaning therein is this: the nature of the great elements is not done by those with consciousness because it arises only from the great elements themselves. However, only the differences in the nature of happiness and suffering, etc., arise. The nature of the sharpness of sensation, etc., is also seen as something to be produced by the cause of dharma. What is the meaning of the death of consciousness, and the births that completely grasp other lives? The immediately preceding consciousness of similar nature exists. The consciousness that relies solely on it is the consciousness of mind, because it does not rely on the eye, etc. Even without a cause with discrimination, it is connected because of sharpness. When is it needed? Especially even without blacksmiths, etc. Or, if there are no blacksmiths, etc., it is causeless because there is sharpness. When is it said that there is none? Even without arrows and spears, etc. If that is the result of the blacksmith, then it is said that this is without a definite cause. Whatever does not have a definite cause is causeless. If it becomes causeless in that way, how can it become causeless? No, there is no definite cause.
