To dispel the doubt that arises from thinking, "Because one is immersed in memories and enjoyments, etc.," an explanation is given. Desires, etc., are not blessed by the self that serves as a basis, because the basis itself is not observed; rather, they arise merely from the habits of experience. The explanation is: 'Not self, not blessed.' Thus, it is made consistent with suffering, because it is related to the former. What arises from habit is also reasonably stated elsewhere as 'not a cause.' Saying that the basis itself is not observed is like asking, 'How can it be permanent?' Even if it is acknowledged, it contradicts gradual arising because permanence itself is not empty; therefore, it is said, 'Therefore, from one.' With this thought, the Bhagavan revealed the four aspects of the truth of suffering, which are 'impermanence,' etc. 'That' refers to holding onto what is said, 'the aggregates of suffering and cyclic existence.' If, due to being accustomed to permanence, what should be observed is something else that arises, and the nature is permanence, then it is said, 'What should be observed is.' If, because of permanence, even when not observed, there is something that should be observed, to dispel this doubt, it is said, 'At all times.' Even so, what cessation is there in permanence? It is said, 'Gradual observation is.' Whatever is gradually observed, that is permanence. Why? It is said, 'For one.' Whatever permanence is impossible to have sequence, therefore, turning back from that, it abides in impermanence, and therefore it is pervaded by it; this is his thought. If it is said, 'What is pervaded by this?' How is it understood that it is impossible in that? It is said, 'Having sequence is.' Then, is it thought that what can be inferred as having sequence is the same? It is said, 'If that is not,' that is, if there is no direct perception. Why? It is said, 'Because direct perception is prior.' Then, inference is prior, but even so, what would happen without inference? To dispel this doubt, it is said, 'Inference.' 'Therefore' refers to what should be gradually observed.

Because of this. This is the explanation called "merely suffering." The term "suffering itself" is used to explain its meaning. "Suffering itself" refers to the aggregates associated with those who have samsara. Why is that? Because (in the sutra) it says attachment and so on. Merely impermanence is not suffering itself, because even those without outflows would be like that. However, (here) it is considered because of having outflows. The cause is clinging to self and what belongs to self. Because of being related, it is suffering because it is dependent, but not merely because of cause and being related. This is to say that there would be faults as before. What is called "other-powered" refers to the dominion of the cause of clinging to self and what belongs to self. The word "also" here has the meaning of including what has not been said. Because it merely relies on habituation. The aggregates of samsara are suffering itself, this refers to the occasion. Emptiness itself and selflessness itself, these are spoken of in two different orders. It is not my own nature, and so on. In order to dispel the doubt of "how is it not blessed by me?" the explanation of "non-cause" is "not a cause." Even so, how would the blesser become a cause? The answer is that it is also a cause of benefit. In this way, in order to dispel the doubt of not being my own nature, it is explained how it could be a constant cause of production? That is to say, if the aggregates are... At that time, take it out from the heart and connect it by saying that it will become constant. If there is any fault in being constant? The answer is that constant is... Even if it is not a cause of production, it is not the thing itself, this is saying that it is not a cause of production, because there is no object of concomitance and contradiction. If you also admit that the aggregates are my own nature, then at that time knowledge is of different times and so on. For "also not blessed," here it speaks of the measure of non-apprehension, which is "I bless." For "non-self," here it also speaks of "aggregates." The blesser...
