Previously, saying "because the taste is the same, it should not be accepted" refers to "the path of samsara." Then, how can one think that the skandhas are happiness? The answer is, "Because of irrationality." "Otherwise" refers to "happiness." This negates the statement "there is no truth of suffering," and in order to eliminate the remaining disputes, recollection refers to the happiness of desire, etc. The aspect of happiness in the skandhas is also not a real thing, but arises from habituation. In order to explain "happiness of desire, etc." which has the meaning of a wild deer escaping, etc., it is "habituation of desire." "Without it, it does not arise" means that without desire, it will not arise. "Not established by its own nature" means that just as sprouts, etc. arise from seeds, etc., they will not arise without relying on habituation. If it does not depend on causes or is permanent, then at that time, because there is no other aspect, it cannot be abandoned, and it will also become the ultimate truth, which is what "if" says. At that time, desire, etc. are ultimately existent, which is what "if it is reasonable" says. If desire, etc. arise from habituation, then it is said that it is not real. "When" refers to this. "From that" refers to habituation itself. Because of that reason, desire, etc. are not real. It is merely conceptualized, not the ultimate truth. Even so, how is that? Therefore, it says "habituation." Abandoning the cause makes it easier to abandon the result. Therefore, it says "because it depends on habituation." If it were the ultimate truth, then there would be no nature of depending on habituation, so it cannot be abandoned. If it depends on it, then because without it, it does not exist, so it will not become ultimately existent, which is what is meant to be expressed. The nature of the mind's manifest joy, that is, the happiness of the mind, also arises from habituation, and is not a real thing, which is what "the mind is joyful" says. Then, where should habituation be cultivated? The answer is, "The Dharma of Samsara." If it is only habituation, it is the cause of abiding in equanimity, and desire is also happiness, but equanimity

Isn't it non-desire (referring to happiness)? So, if one wants to cultivate familiarity with the cause of what is not desired, how should it be done? (Answer:) Happiness also arises from familiarity, it is desired, so it is said. Merely from familiarity, the characteristic of mental joy, equanimity itself is the most excellent desire, because it is irreversible. All of this is the antidote to suffering, therefore it appears as happiness, but its nature is not so, this is what is said. Is it so? Even if happiness is not ultimately real. If from familiarity arises the suffering of desire, and in order to pacify that suffering, happiness arises, doing things like embracing women, what fault would there be? (Answer:) There would be no fault at all. If being happy with merely itself and with other things, both arise from familiarity, and there is no difference, then why is it said that familiarity with itself is the most excellent? In order to dispel this doubt, (the text says:) If. At that time, the mind that is happy with itself is unchanging, because there is no harm, so it is constant. Others are not, because there is no object, so it is reversible, this is its meaning. So, what will be accomplished in that way? (Answer:) From that, it is said, from unchanging. The happiness of being happy with what is not itself is of the nature of change, it is said, if one is not happy with itself, it is said. At that time, if what is not itself disappears, where is that happiness? It itself does not exist. If so, if it itself disappears, or happiness disappears, why does it not change? (Answer:) Itself, it is said. Therefore, it is because it has the nature of change. If it is said that suffering is the cause of happiness, therefore it is happiness, then how can happiness become suffering? In order to dispel this doubt, (the text says:) Like this. At the time of separation, this refers to happiness. Therefore, this refers to because of separation. Is it so? This refers to whether it is happiness or suffering. If so, the aggregates will become suffering, but how is it established that it is samsara? Because of what, it is said. From familiarity, this refers to elimination, this refers to the occasion. Therefore.
