Who is it that sees movement and so on as preceded by habit? Therefore, it is only established that the movement and so on of the first birth can also be inferred as preceded by habit. Other things such as whether the senses are one or not are meaningless. However, isn't it that the merits arising from habit are not seen in other bodies? Therefore, how can the movement and so on of the first birth, which will accomplish the next world, become preceded by habit related to other bodies? Thinking this, it is said, "arising from habit." Likewise, changes will also occur in the body of the first birth. It has already been proven that the dream body is not uncomfortable. Answering by summarizing with the word "also," and then entering the Commentary on Valid Cognition is what is meant by "furthermore." Changes caused by sleep, disease, and deterioration, etc., are visible. If other changes arise in the senses, how can it be established that they are different births? It is said, "becoming one's own nature." If it is not one's own nature, then it cannot be established as its transformation, just like other things. Then, the state of the senses becomes that very state. Therefore, because it is its own nature, it is only different in that it is similar to it. For example, just as earth, water, fire, and wind are mutually different. The "here" that is spoken of here refers to the eyes and so on. The "that" that is spoken of is the answer, that is, the object that is designated as the same continuum is "that." How so? It is "other births also." Then, why is it not recognized as one? It is said, "because it is interrupted by memory." Interruption is non-existence. Distance is eternity, which means non-existence. Even though that other birth exists, because it is perceived as if it does not exist, there is no particular attachment to it being one. The "as before" that is spoken of refers to the fault of inferring that the mind arises from the body in the first place. For the second aspect, it is what is said by "from the absence of senses." The "if it is so" that is spoken of refers to even if multiple senses arise. It is connected with "it is an easy fault." If you want to know what it is like, it is "the senses" and so on. This is an explanation of the meaning of the latter half.

As for presenting the first aspect, it is, for example, "mind" and so on. The answer is, for example, "if" and so on. If the faculties arise from the body and mind, then it is impossible for a dead body to have faculties, then at that time, the previous faculties as the cause, because of clinging to conceptual thought, are not necessary for us, because by admitting that the faculties and so on arise from the mind, the previous world can be established. Therefore, the reason for saying "therefore" is because the mind arises from the body and so on. The summary of the point is that the reason for saying "therefore, not possessing a body that is not a cause" is for this reason. Therefore, the explanation of the statement "such a proof is possessed of remainder" is, it is the very statement "because it is the dying mind." The reason for saying "is possessed of remainder" is that because it is both the dying mind and the connecting (intermediate state), it is uncertain. How is it understood? Just like "merely because it is not seen." What is the meaning of saying "because it exists in different bodies"? Is it dependent on the body? Or is it with the body as its object? To this, first of all, the first assertion is not reasonable, because the negation of the term "existing in," that is, the negation of the term "existing in that," has already been stated before. From where is it negated? It is negated from negating the support. Therefore, the reason "because it exists in different bodies" is not established. Refuting the second assertion is "consciousness" and so on. The consciousness of the later moment will take other bodies as its object. Therefore, the reason "because it exists in different bodies" is uncertain. It should be understood that this has already been universally negated before. Then, upon what does the mind exist? The answer is, "consciousness is." This refers to speaking with consideration of the object of the substance of the support, if it were not so, then one could not negate the object of this existence as examined in chronological order, that itself is also the manner of the support. In this way, through telling the first half and not establishing it, telling that itself, and then refuting the second assertion is "the body to be cognized is." The meaning is that there is no such statement as "existing upon the object to be cognized." Through this manner, also in order to show that it cannot be established as the support itself, the word of the support is spoken. If as the support of what
