Again, it is said that it also exists in function. The so-called "self-substantial knowledge" refers to what is possessed by the self-nature wisdom of this function. The so-called "endless" means that there is no abiding, because other inferences increase, etc., and what was previously forgotten will become like that. If it is thought that valid cognition will be realized from other valid cognitions, then it is said, "From direct perception and inference." Now, the author of the treatise has said, "What is said here," and so on. The so-called "pervading" refers to "from self," and so on. The distinction of one's own part of the words is said, which is "not the nature of others." Why is the nature of others not realized? It is said, "Direct perception is present." If it is indeed so, then what will happen? It is said, "Direct realization also." The so-called "on one's own nature" refers to appearing as the knowledge that wants to become the proof. If one also wants to use reason to prevent the form of external objects, even so, it is not the main thing now, because it is the time of thinking about valid cognition. Therefore, it is said, "Having the distinction of the time of attainment," such as fire, etc. In this way, it is shown that whatever nature is established as valid cognition, other direct perceptions do not make the self-nature manifest, and then, in order to show that inference is also not the proof of valid cognition, it is shown that there is no need to establish a connection, which is "everything itself." Or even if the meaning of the time of attainment does not actually appear, it is only the realization that there is no confusion, because that is the nature of knowledge. Therefore, if it is said that valid cognition is not realized, it is said, "The meaning to be obtained." It is not holding the connection between the meaning to be obtained and the knowledge that wants to appear as the proof. Even if it is held that it has a connection, if it is thought that it can be determined as valid cognition in that way, it is said, "That way," whatever is not determined as not being confused about the meaning to be obtained at the time of pervasion, then it will not become valid cognition, but will become inference. The connection itself with the nature of being present will arise.

If it is thought that a connection will be established with "new," then it is said (in the scriptures) that a connection is established with "the nature of what is present." The so-called "that" is not connected with "the nature of what will arise" because it is the same for valid and invalid cognition, because there is no "nature of what will arise." If, like that, the cognition previously considered to be the establisher does not comprehend the connection with "the nature of the function of the meaning that will arise," then only "the cognition of the function of the meaning that will arise" will establish the connection, because there are situations similar to experience. Therefore, if it is thought that the hope of being certain as a valid cognition will not be cut off in all cases, then it is said (in the scriptures) "the meaning that will arise," intending to explain that it is because there is no previous nature. To show that even the conceptual thought that arises after the previous and subsequent cognitions does not establish a connection, it says "after that." "From that" refers to conceptual thought. In this way, after showing that no connection is established, to show that no valid cognition arises from inference, it says "therefore, that," and so on. Then, what is the sign? (The scripture says) "Comprehending one's own essence." The so-called "from that cognition" refers to those who say that "establishing a connection with the nature of cognition, that is, the nature to be obtained" is a valid cognition, clearly wanting to (take this) as a valid cognition, but when grasping one's own essence, it shows that it is not grasping. The so-called "that" refers to establishing a connection with the nature to be obtained. Even so, if it is thought that the wish has been fulfilled, then (in the scriptures) it says "therefore, entering." Whatever knowledge of one's own nature has no entering and exiting, that is called "that." Because of how it arises, it does not comprehend establishing a connection with the meaning to be obtained that is not comprehended, similarly, matter itself will not become the wisdom that establishes a connection with the present external environment and "this is the holder of this." Therefore, the various appearances are merely the nature of cognition, because others should not appear, what is said in this way refers to the absence of a situation of speaking of differences. In this way, after establishing suchness, what is said to be proven is "therefore," which refers to.
