It is also the same to be called "unrelated." The first statement merely indicates separation from other categories, while the treatise indicates that the category itself is separated from all fictional additions, so merely proclaiming the first statement does not understand the meaning of that treatise. The treatise is actually its result, but it comes from familiarity with the treatise. Therefore, it does not become the first statement because it is needed to enter. If it is said that the first statement is necessary for entering, and that this is what is to be expressed here, then what evidence is there for this? Because the statement is unrelated to external things. If one enters without certainty, then the initial statement would also be fallacious. So, what is the use of the initial statement? To this, some say that the first statement is not for the purpose of entering, but rather to eliminate the general view that a statement that is empty of what is to be expressed is not worth beginning. The unestablished statement is for the purpose of expression, and the treatise is also for the purpose of constructing the text. Others supplement by saying that the unestablished statement itself is the means of entering. Both of these follow the views of Dharmakirti and have therefore already been refuted and will not add to the length. Still others say that this is actually a commitment to the meaning of all the treatises that will be explained, and because it is an inference for others, "sound is impermanent" and so forth will not be interrupted elsewhere. The commitment also shows that the object of inference is near, so it is itself an inference. So, how is it prevented? Because it does not need a reason that has a statement of universality. This is contrary to reason and the views of scholars and should therefore be abandoned. Therefore, the discerning person who hears the meaning of the commitment is necessarily unreasonable due to the various thoughts of people. Even though things and non-things appear with an uncertain nature, because one sees that the author of the treatise does not deceive others, hesitation arises from identifying the non-thing part through the thing. For very hidden things, since there is no other basis, merely seeking its meaning will enter. For the same thing, before
