If omniscience is merely a term, it is because there is no other ultimate truth. Even so, if its proof is said to be conventional truth, it depends on how it is said, but its ability to prove what it is intended to prove is undeniable. As such, because inference itself is unimpeded with respect to the limbs of certainty and excellence, such as momentariness, it is meaningless to seek omniscience. For that which is not its object, namely higher realms, if its instruction itself is the means of entry, then the instruction must be diligently proven to be free from doubts of reversal. Therefore, how can the abandonment of the means of valid cognition and the Blessed One's omniscience be more effective in accomplishing all the purposes of beings? To this it is said: Without valid cognition, for omniscience, whether all purposes are accomplished or not, even so, conventional valid cognition is considered to be accompanied by omniscience itself. Thus, the objects of valid cognition are of two kinds: those common to others, such as the afterlife, and form and feeling, etc.; and those not common, such as selflessness and momentariness, etc. Among these, for the former, it is possible to obtain valid cognition even without omniscience; but for the latter, it is not, because without the Blessed One's instruction, it is impossible for a universal understanding of momentariness, etc., to arise, because it is not possible to engage in its proof before the knowledge one wishes to know has arisen. For the former, it is not possible to deny direct perception for the time being with respect to form, etc., and the terms for form, etc., are also established in the world. For the afterlife, because the beauty of this shore has not been realized, it is possible to use speech if one wants to understand it later, so it is easy to find a way to enter. Regarding what is said, "It does not involve the afterlife, etc.," the word "afterlife" refers to the part of higher realms that possesses skillful means, and the word "etc." refers to momentariness, etc., and the limbs of certainty and excellence. So, is it also because momentariness, etc., are conjectured for the purpose of refuting others? If it is said that the application of the means of entry is unavoidable, it is not so, because without the Blessed One's teachings, even the thought of refuting these would not arise.

If so. Therefore, the teachings of the Blessed One, which possess the characteristics of self-nature, are for establishing and refuting what is said. However, how does one act and enter in that way due to the power of other births? If it is said that there is no harm to this, it is not so. Because without relying on such teachings, there is no habituation in other births. Where does this come from? If even so, if one obtains valid cognition of selflessness, etc., from the establishment and instruction of the Blessed One, then because the Blessed One is established from that habituation, it is a cycle, if you say so. This fault does not exist. Establishment is of two kinds: arising and ascertainment. Among them, if the Blessed One is generally ascertained from the teachings of the past or present Blessed One, in the manner explained in the Commentary on Valid Cognition, what fault is there? If one wants to say that it arises from one's own teachings, etc., then it will be a fault. Although one wants to say arising, nevertheless, it is another Blessed One with his own distinct characteristics. Then, how does the instructor arise? Because from the teachings of other omniscient ones, it is the action of others, therefore the side of all afflictions and purification is also without beginning. Similarly, for arising, one should also understand other omniscient ones. Then, how is the instructor ascertained? If one seeks the meaning of the nature of the characteristics of a person, then at that time, when it appears in the present, it is from direct perception, or for the past, from the inference arising from the characteristic of the scriptures, the sign of the fruit. However, if one thinks of the ascertainment of the qualities of the omniscient one, then at that time, even if it is not directly ascertained, one can refute the speech of others, and from the door of the collection of qualities of miraculous displays, from the credible speech instruction, one obtains the recollection of conduct, and just that much accomplishes the desired. Thus, from the teachings of the Blessed One, the fruit of the perfect characteristic called omniscient is accomplished. One should not establish that if the meaning is the same, then the two are meaningless, because the
