From the perspective of location, it is direct perception; from the perspective of what is to be negated, the knowledge that arises with the thought of "non-existence," if one thinks that there is no fault because it is the valid cognition of non-existence, then that is also without essence. Because whatever is called the object of measurement of "non-existence" is because it prevents other things, even with the conceptual thought of the aspect of prevention, one should know the very nature of the thing itself. Therefore, because there is no additional function, it is not appropriate to establish it as another valid cognition. For those who are deluded by reasoning, following what was previously seen, establishing an additional term is not contradictory to non-perception itself. If one accepts it in this way, then it is non-perception itself, and not another valid cognition called "non-existence." Thus, from the occasion of refuting permanence, the tenet that "non-existence is not a valid cognition or object of measurement" is established. Therefore, unless it is in accordance with the desire for manifestation, if the arising of dissimilar knowledge becomes harmful, then the knowledge of a pot will also be harmed by the knowledge of cloth, and it will fall into this situation. The knowledge of cloth is not a harm to the knowledge of a pot. Similarly, waking consciousness is not a harm to dream consciousness. Therefore, because waking consciousness does not harm dream consciousness, the fault of being a valid cognition is not abandoned. Therefore, non-harm itself is not the definition of a valid cognition. If, for the time being, it is difficult to abandon the object to be harmed and the agent of harm in name, and because direct perception, which is uniquely determined, calls other things non-existent, then what need is there for another agent of harm? Therefore, since waking consciousness is also uniquely determined, why is it not the agent of harm for dream consciousness? Therefore, "because," and so on, is said. Because only the arising of dissimilar knowledge with a definite aspect of its own is the agent of harm. Similarly, "conversely also" means that dream consciousness will also become the agent of harm for waking consciousness, or a pot will also become the agent of harm for cloth consciousness. It is said "because it is solely grasping," waking consciousness is also the agent of harm because it is solely grasping, and that solely grasping is

It is also present in the knowledge of roads and pots. Therefore, these will also become harmful. This is called "kind," which is synonymous with "this is ultimate." Therefore, since harm and non-harm themselves are not completely confused, it is thought that measure and non-measure, which have that characteristic, are also merely nominally established. In conventional terms, by the power of a person's thought, waking consciousness harms the consciousness of dreams, and seeing mica harms seeing silver, but not the other way around. Therefore, and so on, is the conclusion. Stating the result is: Therefore, with others, and so on. Thus, non-deception itself is the common characteristic of all conventional and ultimate measures. Here, the refutation is, if the Blessed One, and so on. The meaning is that because it is the cause of accomplishing all the benefits of beings, it is desired to accomplish the Blessed One, and this is also by means of direct perception and other measures, as it is said, "Knowledge is me," and so on. Therefore, what is the use of accomplishing the Blessed One? "That is non-existent," and so on, is the end of accomplishment. In relation to self-objects, that is, holding one's own characteristics, direct perception is applicable. Alternatively, inference is applicable to holding general characteristics. If direct perception and inference are measure and non-measure, then how is it understood? This will also be explained later, in the chapter on direct perception. Now, to show that the function of these two is non-existent, is "for a while," and so on. For what purpose is the Blessed One sought? That is, the next life, and so on, is relevant, and for this, if the person who needs to know the next life does not even know the words of others in that moment, what need is there to mention other people? This is the point of stating self-objects in verses. The point of stating that inference holds the general object is:
