It is because of being a disciple. The proximate indication of the Commentary on Valid Cognition is not present here. Therefore, the fame arising from that is not a valid cognition. If it falls into the aspect of proximate indication like something, the fame will not become Dignāga's Commentary on Valid Cognition either, because it has become doubt, and because of establishing the meaning without proximate indication, such as the confusion of root consciousness, etc., as the established tenet. If here, the teacher says, 'Meaningful reasoning, observing this fundamental meaning, with reason,' etc., then, it is disrespectful to the proximate indication, because it is promised by the lord of reasoning himself, what can others do about this? If it is said, 'The reasoning is to be clarified,' it is a vow made by oneself. Then, the glorious and blessed Bhagavan, with what does he take hold of the world, in order for this world not to understand the meaning of that word, it is said in the Ornament of the Determination of Valid Cognition. Therefore, this is a vow made as a commentary on the holy words. If it is said that the meaning is the main thing, even if it is undoubtedly necessary to write in what is said, like Dignāga, it does not point to the holy words. It is not like that, because the object of the holy words, apart from the five meanings that are useful for the supreme meaning of the individual, nothing is pointed to here. The following of the rules of words is also, 'Therefore, the cause of faults is said to be ignorance.' And, 'Therefore, praising the characteristic of self, it is said to be without self,' etc. Similarly, the so-called suchness meaning abandonment, and 'What is contradictory, what is said here,' etc., with the effort to eliminate contradictions, it is understood to be devoted to this. If it is said that this is only the source, for what is not common, what is there to believe in actions, etc.? If so, the two are the same. It is not so, because the rules of the teacher's words, the holy words themselves become suppression, because of the great power. The initial proximate indication, making the world vast, etc., is also suitable for the Bhagavan himself. Finally, because 'Meaningful reasoning, observing this fundamental meaning, I have said' is not obtained, the word of observation is not suitable for the teacher Dignāga.

Moreover, the so-called "Sutra" is also none other than the sacred word for the object to be measured, such as selflessness. Since that is its place, it is actually the famous Sutra itself. It does not rely on imputation after transcending actual entry, because there is no need. If it is said that it is necessary to avoid despising the teacher Dignāga, then whose is this thought of necessity here? If it is the teacher's, then it will actually become a statement of following Dignāga, for example, "The supreme of all Buddhas, with foot-eye." Merely ungrammatical speech is unbearable. If it is said that the path of explaining what has not been explained for a while, and making what has been explained enter as not having been explained, is reasonable, then why did the teacher Dignāga himself abandon this path? If it is said that it is easier to abandon many factors that hinder the establishment of debate, then this is also the same for Dignāga's path. Thus, the root of Dignāga and the view of fame manifest here as another action. Therefore, it is not expanded for the sake of listening to Dignāga, like the son of a leper, etc. Because he sees many difficult connections, he also remedies other actions. In that case, even relying on scripture, one cannot avoid other-dependence, because one relies on it. Therefore, if one follows the teacher's intention, mainly because of the distinction of respect for him, and because the words of the *Pramāṇavārttika* clearly incline towards that way, then this is its commentary. If it is said that this thought of necessity here is yours, and you change it to explain the *Pramāṇavārttika*, then we have no loss, because elaborating the teacher's intention should not be transgressed and examined. Anyone who has discrimination also does not rely on explaining its treatise, because seeking liberation, etc., is to show its method. For everything that is not inverted, one seeks inversion, and by following it, one should also speak of the reason for relying on it, in order to avoid the faults attached by deluded beings, and to accomplish it as it is.

It is for the sake of showing nearness (to the truth). Regarding this, if someone says that there is no cause or effect for the accomplishment of such knowledge, etc., then wise people will have many wrong understandings. If it is said without dependence, then the listener will also become frivolous, and how could the speaker not be a madman? If expressing dependence through explaining the scriptures is also not possible, because it is difficult for both the speaker and the listener. Such a statement is not a sin, because if those who seek Bodhi liberation, etc., think that directly using the means of valid cognition to show what is relied upon is madness, then the source of wisdom becomes like that, who would believe Jayananda himself? If because it is extremely profound, such things can only be understood through direct realization without any other method, then those who seek it, just like directly attaining accomplishment, will not fail to obtain other methods as well. In any case, the established valid cognition should be explained truthfully, not entering into pursuit because of the need to express worldly affairs. However, need is also possible, such as entering into treatises that only show momentariness, etc. For momentariness, there is nothing that is impossible, and no one enters into the Dharma related to it for their own benefit. If that were the case, then there would be no need for action, because there is no other speaker, just like the Buddha, etc. If someone thinks that it is not momentary, then completely abandoning it, pursuing the function of momentariness, becoming the reason for entering into momentariness itself, definitely recognizing the nature of momentariness, will produce a result-bearing cognition, such as recognizing blue. But this is not the case, because all non-momentariness is excluded. Therefore, if it is allowed to enter into everything, then what is the use of momentariness being close to eternity? Therefore, for the word "it," it refers to what is going to happen. Similarly, by merely recognizing the shape, in order to enter into the collection of taste, etc., it is also valid cognition, and it should be understood in this way as well. If through cognition it is not valid cognition, but entering
