Because of distinguishing blue by force, one is more attached to seeing the objects of cause and effect. Therefore, since the ability of the results such as sprouts is seen in the causes such as seeds, how can it not exist? What is said here, "If it is considered conventional truth," the meaning here is that, apart from establishing the reality of objects by valid cognition, it is merely conventional truth because it is more inclined to the habit of imputation. The meaning of knowing without examination is the meaning of conventional truth. Just as in some cases, even without seeing blue and so on, pride of seeing appears, if examined, it will change. Similarly, worldly terms are not ultimate truth, so these various things are merely conventional truth. Merely the pride of appearance known without valid cognition is conventional truth. In this way, the objects of cause and effect are understood by concomitance and contradiction. If it is accepted that existence and non-existence are also established by direct perception and non-apprehension, then direct perception does not experience the concomitance of "this arises from this," because it does not manifest the two objects present in front, so direct perception does not comprehend that "these arise after this." Commentary on the Explanation of Valid Cognition, Second Chapter. Like this, what is the meaning of "arising from this"? Does it arise from itself? Or is it because this exists that the other exists? Or should it be examined whether it arises from this? If it is determined that it arises from itself, then, is it arising from itself now? Or does it arise from itself at another time? If it arises from itself now, then at another time it will also arise from another. In that way, how can it be determined that smoke does not arise from another in another place? If it is said that at another time it arises from itself and not from another, then there is no valid cognition for the statement that it arises from itself at another time, because direct perception has the object of the present, so it can grasp the present phenomena, but if direct perception definitely grasps fire and smoke of all times and places, then inference becomes meaningless at that time. Because this exists, the other exists.

Therefore, one should not cling to the certainty of "this." Because sometimes there is a cause in other places, etc., but no result arises, how is one to understand the concomitance? If one says, "It arises from this," then one has admitted that the result arises from both oneself and others, so how is one to ascertain the nature of cause and effect? Therefore, it is not possible to understand concomitance through direct perception. Conversely, negation is also not established by non-apprehension. If non-apprehension is direct perception, or if it is investigated as inference, then, if non-apprehension is inference, then non-apprehension also relies on negation, and negation also relies on non-apprehension, so it will become mutually dependent. If the negation of not seeing fire is established by another inference, then, at that time, the negation of that inference can only be established by another inference, so the inference itself will become endless. If direct perception itself is inference, then it is merely a difference in name, and direct perception does not establish negation in all places and at all times, because it does not apply to those places and times. If the nature of cause and effect is understood by the measure of fame, then understanding the unseen meaning without establishing a connection is called fame. Since direct perception cannot understand two things, the connection between cause and effect is not understood by direct perception. Therefore, knowing "these are the results, these are the causes" is merely speculation. Alternatively, understanding the result by separately determining it through understanding of meaning. If a sprout is not produced by a seed, then it should not exist immediately after it, so understanding the unseen meaning is understanding through meaning. But that is not correct. If knowing the nature of cause and effect is an experience, then it should be expressed through understanding of meaning or through fame, so why is it said that there is no understanding of the nature of cause and effect? It is impossible to know that "it will definitely arise from this," because at the very moment of separate determination, it is already known that this is its result, so how can one know at another time that it arises from this?
