Shouldn't one recognize that the forms of earth and appearance are definite? The general characteristic that follows what is unclear and devoid of color is not an appearance, but rather the experience of a mind that merely follows forms such as color will arise. However, if the general characteristic is unclear and possesses the forms of color and shape, then how can one ascertain that the knowledge related to sound is a general characteristic? If it is said that what follows and is empty of forms such as the color blue, the characteristics by which shape is known, and letters, is the very nature of a cow, then how can it be seen by a measurand with other forms, by knowledge with other forms? Therefore, the general characteristic is not an appearance; the following thought, "This is a cow," is merely a name. If the name itself becomes unrelated to the meaning of non-difference, how can that be? It is not so, because it is the same in doing the same thing. It has been explained in the first chapter that it is only the name that is the same. Alternatively, only the knowledge of complete analysis is the same, but there is no sameness in meaning. However, if the arising of seeing that follows sound is a general characteristic that has experienced an unclear form, then what is pointed out by the particular as being devoid of color, etc., is not, because it is unclear. It is said in reply: Even though that itself is the same, it does not appear in the domain of eye consciousness. Since there are no two appearances, it is difficult to find the difference in mind. Among these, even if one admits that the form in which the nature of blue, etc., appears unclearly to the following consciousness is the same nature, this clear nature, which has an unclear form, is not seen in the domain of eye consciousness. Therefore, how can the nature of the general characteristic unknown to eye consciousness become a category? However, since it is non-different from knowledge, the unclear is the nature of difference. If, for all things, doesn't the experience of the mind of all things that appear through general and particular characteristics arise? A measurand without the form of general and particular characteristics cannot obtain arising, because such a thing is a dharma of reason, that is, seeing the place that exists in the external object.

Furthermore, if one were to say that even without a genus, a mind with the aspect of that genus arises, then how would one avoid the appearance of being situated outside of oneself? The answer is that this is meaningless, because neither the mind born from the senses nor the conceptual mind has found a difference in nature with aspects of following and reversing, because there is no appearance of two aspects, common and uncommon. Like this, is the mind with two appearances born from the senses? Or is it a conceptual mind? To that, the mind born from the senses is not one with appearances of reversing and following, because seeing is the very cutting off of the uncommon aspect of clarity itself. The consciousness born from the eye does not know a common nature that is more than the nature of clarity, and the nature that has become invisible is not an object, because it is too extreme. If you say that the conceptual mind holds two aspects, then it is not so, because it only experiences the nature of being unclear. The appearance of a clear aspect in conception is not possible, therefore, this mind also does not hold two appearances, and thus it is shown that no genus different from clarity is seen. If you say that it is not through the power of combining and gathering that one knows that a genus different from clarity is different? For example, When the form of a special basis becomes near, it appears in a crystal ball as its own nature, but one should know that the crystal does not show anything different from the form of the basis. Answer: Saying, Because the senses do not grasp combination, The relationship abides in the unseen. Because combination and gathering are beyond the scope of the senses, the senses do not grasp them, therefore, it is certain that the relationship of genera and so on is not seen. Like this, because the opponent has already admitted that combination and gathering are beyond the scope of the senses. How can combination and gathering, which are beyond seeing and touching, destroy the appearance of oneself as different genera? Dyes and other pigments, because they are experienced by themselves, will destroy the seeing of the nature of fabrics as different. If you say that only the combination and gathering of dust particles is considered to be beyond the scope of the senses, while the realm of the senses of a reasonable
