The initial place of arising will come to be, and if mindfulness and so forth draw near, then the wisdom of conceptualization will arise. If it is said that it arises from the action of direct perception, therefore it is direct perception itself, that is not true, because that which arises from the eye is itself without conceptualization, and the conceptualization that arises later at that time does not arise from the sense faculty, because there is no action of the sense faculty. That should be said. Now, if it is known that in the state where conceptualization is gathered, it appears as a state where conceptualization has ceased, then how does it become separate from conceptualization at that time? Or, if there is no knowledge at that time, then how is it known to appear as non-conceptual itself? Even if the knowledge of conceptualization ceases, conceptualization is suppressed and recognized, because the path of the term called "recognition" does not enter. If this is asked, the answer to this is: Again, slightly conceptualizing, I become such a conceptualization. Thus, the state of recognition previously spoken of, from the sense faculty there is no conceptualization. That is to say, after the conceptualization has ceased, slightly analyzing the object that has passed beyond the previous recognition, analyzing and saying: Such a conceptualization has arisen in me. But it is not that in the previous state of recognition, at the time of destroying conceptualization, it is recognized by the knowledge of the sense faculty, and recognized by diligently establishing it. Its intention is this: At that very time, the thought does not arise, "Its conceptualization, I see it without conceptualization." Therefore, it should be said that direct perception is separate from conceptualization. Otherwise, even if one says that direct perception has conceptualization, as long as the certainty that "this has conceptualization" has not arisen, how can the term "direct perception has conceptualization" be applied? Therefore, in order to apply the term that direct perception is conceptualization, it is also necessary to grasp

If someone asks, 'What does it mean to say, "It arises together with conceptual thought"?' The answer to this is that the conceptual thought that arises initially is called conceptual thought through the transmission of conceptual thought. It is not so when it is separated from conceptual thought, because at that time one clings to the appearance of the cessation of conceptual thought. Is there no awareness at that time? How does one enter the path of clinging? If one says this, then how can the consciousness of conceptual thought, even if it has disappeared long ago, become an object of clinging? If one says that one knows because one sees conceptual thought of the same kind, then here too, the reappearance of suppressed conceptual thought is unavoidable. Therefore, since they possess dissimilar natures and arise mutually exclusive, there is no identity whatsoever between conceptual thought and another consciousness. If it is established that there are different causes, then the difference of consciousness can be established. If someone asks, 'The different cause of conceptual thought is not established,' if special causes are assembled, then the difference of consciousness with certainty can be established. If one thinks in this way, then just as blue and yellow, which arise from different causes, are mixed together, why not admit that consciousness is also different? Regarding this, one cannot say that the nature of blue and yellow is something different that arises from a special cause. Because one clings to the fact that what arises from recognition is yellow itself, and not another mixture. If someone asks, 'Is consciousness also like blue and yellow?' If so, then how can different awarenesses of clarity and non-clarity have the same cause? For example, the power of the eye generates the experience of blue, while conceptual thought arises in dependence on the habitual tendencies left by previous experiences. Therefore, due to different causes, that which has conceptual thought and the other are completely different, which is very clear. Therefore, direct perception is without conceptual thought. If so, if one relies on this, even if there is no awareness that has become conceptual thought, awareness will become clear when one opens one's eyes. There, if there is no combination with the kind that clings to this appearance, there will be no grasping, etc. As it is said in the scripture, 'If what is seen by the consciousness arising from the sense faculty, which is of a kind that is always close to its own characteristic, then how can direct perception be without conceptual thought?'
