Thus, the three characteristics of effect, nature, and non-apprehension are established as subsequent inference. Furthermore, if the general mind is not a valid means of cognition, then without it, one would obtain the other shore, like a real object. If it is understood at another time by the senses, then it is not in the power of the senses, etc., because there is no sense consciousness. If it is understood as non-existent, then the arising of consciousness will not be causal. It is said: If the general mind is not a valid means of cognition, then what is hidden will become non-existent, like the world beyond. However, not everything hidden is meaningless, for example, the understanding of the senses in sequence is present, because the objects of the world beyond do not enter into the senses in sequence. If it is said that the world beyond does not exist, then it should exist at the time of understanding. Who knows that it exists when it is not visible to direct perception? Therefore, seeing the result and the result not being permissible elsewhere, it is inferred that the eye and its power exist. Furthermore, the appearance of the senses in sequence also becomes the power of the senses and the cause itself, and there will be no knowledge. Why? Because the eye and so on do not have the consciousness of the senses. However, even though there are no senses, etc., if there is knowledge that the senses are non-existent, then the arising of the consciousness of the eye will not be causal. Therefore, if there is no subsequent inference, then not everything hidden exists. However, if the general prior and subsequent nature is the understanding of direct perception itself with understanding, then there is no fault? It is said: Because of the absence of conceptualization, direct perception is in its own characteristic. The grasping of the general in it is without conceptualization, therefore it is subsequent inference. It is said: The consciousness of grasping the general is interpretation, but direct perception does not enter into the general. However, direct perception enters into its own characteristic, because it is without conceptualization. Because without conceptualization, it does not grasp the general, knowing that the general is only inferring things, not direct perception.

It is not so. By this, the numbers one and three are clear. This, called such, exists. Then, how is it that what apprehends color and so on with aspects such as impermanence does not exist? In order to explain the text up to that point, the object of measurement, therefore, the impermanence of color is not understood. That is another valid cognition, because it exists without a sign. Thus it is said. If the own-characteristic of the object of measurement and the general characteristic are ascertained, then the impermanence of blue and so on will not be understood. Thus, manifest cognition apprehends its own-characteristic, and the object of inference is the general characteristic. How is a particular with a general characteristic understood? That also exists. Therefore, what apprehends the impermanence of color becomes another valid cognition, because it arises without a sign, so it is not inference. Seeing a distinction is also apprehended by inference, because the sign is not understood to be related to the general, so it is another valid cognition. It is said: Because the connection of the sign is not understood, whatever seeing of distinction there is, that is another valid cognition, because there are many objects to be measured, so there are many valid cognitions, or for one, because many do not enter, for example, like seeing a distinction. Because there is no certainty about the object, and because there are other objects to be measured, the numbers one and three will not be eliminated. For this, because the sign with the reason of seeing a distinction, smoke and so on, is not understood to be related to the general, this is that fire, because there is smoke, so seeing a distinction is another valid cognition, because it is separated from manifest understanding, so it is not manifest cognition, and because it is not an object of the general, so it is not inference. Therefore, because there are many objects to be measured, so there are many valid cognitions. Because one object to be measured does not allow many valid cognitions to enter, even if it is one object, it will become many valid cognitions. In what way is it seen that many enter into one? For example, together with seeing a distinction, many enter, thus, first fire is understood by manifest cognition, and later from seeing smoke, it is understood that this is that fire, If a valid cognition with seeing a distinction enters. Therefore, the number one will not be eliminated, and the number three will not be eliminated.
