If because these are different, they become different places and different measures, then how will these themselves become? Answer: For that from the function of things, the mind that follows and returns, to this has the self-governing of clinging, other than that, things transcend the senses. For this saying, for the knowable things, whether there is or is not the function of things, whether there is or is not the mind that follows and returns, the thing that has or does not have the mind, that thing is self-governing, that is, clinging through direct perception. Other than direct perception clinging, what is it that does not cling to self-governing? However, the clinging thing that arises from the awakening of the habits produced by what was seen before is beyond the senses, that is, non-direct perception. For this, the function of the senses is not appearing in a way that there is no direct perception, if there is no way for direct perception to function, then there will be no other understanding. Therefore, whatever understanding there is, that is the thing of direct perception, whatever there is no direct perception understanding, that is hidden, but not hidden because there is no encounter with the senses. Do the senses not also only see the self-nature? If it is known through inference, then there will be no hidden. But if the self-nature is not understood, then the inference will not touch the thing. Therefore, the hidden thing is not understood as its own self-nature. Then, if the hidden thing is not known, how will inference become a measure? Is its mind not of the nature of analyzing the hidden thing? Here it is answered: Its self-nature does not appear I, understanding this other thing that is the support, if it is related to the support, then at that time it is understandable. For this saying, whatever is the uncertain self-nature that transcends the senses, that is the non-appearing self-nature, that is, understanding its meaning, that is, the determined, relies on other things that are different from the thing to be proven, rather than self-governing clinging. Then, if seeing other things is understood as other things, then it will be too excessive, because seeing a little will be understood as anything. That is not, the non-appearing self-nature

If it becomes related to what is the basis itself, then at that time it will become knowable. Or, it should be considered that it is related to whatever depends on that dharma, such as impermanence. These explain the three modes. Isn't it memory that arises from association? If it is said that since it arises from habit and so on, that would be too extreme, it is not so, because memory arising from habit can also exist elsewhere. For example, memory arising from habit does not show the meaning of a specific place and time, but the object that the memory arising from a sign shows a specific place and time is a valid cognition. If it is said that the knowledge arising from a sign is of the same kind, that is inference, and the opposite will become another valid cognition, it is said: At that time, the knowable follows, understanding in the nature of the universal. Therefore, all hidden things will not be understood as special. That is to say, because the sign of the knowable follows, the knowable follows, at that time, when inferring the nature of the universal, it will be understood, that is, the nature of following will be understood. Therefore, all hidden things will not be understood as special, that is, they will not be understood as the uncommon nature. If it is said that although it is reasoning arising from a sign with three modes of a universal aspect, even so, how is it known that inference itself is a valid cognition? It is said: From things with association, whatever understanding arises for the dharma, that is inference, it is the one achiever of the hidden. That is to say, from the dharma (such as smoke) associated with the thing to be proven, the inference that arises from the knowledge of fire and so on for the dharma of the place and so on, by that, hidden things can only be achieved through inference, there is no other valid cognition. Then, isn't there a valid cognition that takes other measurable things as its object? How is it that there are only two valid cognitions?

Apart from the manifest and the hidden, there is no other object of measurement. Therefore, since there are only two objects of measurement, it is asserted that there are only two valid cognitions. That which is called this, because there is no object of measurement other than the manifest and the non-manifest, by what means does the valid cognition, which is the possessor of that object, become something else? Therefore, since there are only two objects of measurement, it is reasonable that there are only two valid cognitions. Now, isn't the establishment of two objects of measurement accomplished by two valid cognitions? If it is said that valid cognition is the establisher of the object of measurement, then it is not the establisher of the object, because it is established by self-awareness. It has already been shown that the nature of knowledge, possessing the nature of being manifest and non-manifest, is the object of direct perception and inference. Now, it is to show that these two natures are not one valid cognition from the point of view of reason, and three are also not reasonable. The number three and one are clear, because the two objects of measurement are seen. It is said, called this, therefore, since the object of measurement is two, because there is no other object of measurement, one should consider whether the number three is rejected, or because the object of measurement is shown to be two, the number one is rejected. Since non-existence is not an object of measurement, if it is only one, I also agree. That which is called this, if it is said that only the one with distinctions is the object of measurement, and because there is nothing other than that, it is not to be measured by other valid cognitions, then, in response to this, it is said that there is no object of measurement other than its own characteristic, and this is what I also agree with, that is, the general characteristic is not the object of measurement, but only the individual characteristic is the object of measurement, because that itself is known by its own nature and the nature of others, therefore it is said to possess the nature of general and individual characteristics. Furthermore, if it is not an object of measurement, then non-existence also is, therefore it is uncertain. That which is called this, because the non-existence of its own nature, such as prior non-existence, is also an object of measurement, therefore, in establishing that it is not an object of measurement, using non-existence as the reason becomes uncertain, and uncertainty is not a reason. Prior non-existence and so on, because it is contrary to reason, isn't it rejecting all names of certainty? Therefore, only non-duality exists, and if that definitely exists, then there are two valid cognitions. The wisdom born from non-existence is not, because it is born from the power of the object. If it does not depend on the power of the object either, then
