In order to realize that, it is reasonable for the object of measurement to be twofold. So, how do direct perception and inference, as two, become different because they take the ultimate meaning as their object? If it makes the self-nature manifest, it will become direct perception itself. If inference does not touch that self-nature, how can it be its object? Here it is said: Without manifest attachment to what is as it is, the second is considered to be confused. The meaning of this is that, just as there are various differences such as roots and leaves, because there is no such manifest attachment, it is without manifest attachment to what is as it is. Therefore, the second, which realizes through the self-nature of another, is called confused, because it arises from the power of the habitual tendencies generated by previous seeing, and although it does not touch the object, it manifests attachment to the object. If one realizes through the mode of another, confusion is not a valid cognition. This says that if one realizes through the mode of another, then it will not become a valid cognition, because it is confusion. Or, if one realizes through the mode of another, then how will one realize that object? If one realizes the self-nature of another, how will one obtain another object? If it is confusion itself, then valid cognition is not confusion. However, even if it is confusion itself, because it is not deceptive, it is valid cognition. How is it not deceptive? If one realizes another, one will not obtain another, therefore it is not non-deceptive. Here it is said: Because intention is not deceptive, even if it is confusion, it is valid cognition. Realization also appears as another aspect. The answer to this question has already been given. This says, how is it known that direct perception also manifests attachment to the meaning as it is? Because it is not deceptive with respect to the meaning one wants to manifest. The confusion that arises from a sign, if the intention, that is, what one wants to manifest, is not deceptive, then it will become valid cognition. Inference arises from the power of habitual tendencies and appears unclearly. If it is not grasping at an object, even so, through the imputation of names, it realizes as if grasping at an object, and because it is also not deceptive by conforming to it, it is valid cognition. However, how does the imputation of names regard the knowledge arising from a sign as an object? Inference and

Because it clings to things. Because conceptual thought has no things, because things have no certainty. However, due to the power of beginningless habitual tendencies, in order to make one's own appearance appear in the external environment, it is called "entering," because there is certainty about what is seen, so it can be entered. Otherwise, how can direct perception enter? Because for direct perception, the nature to be obtained does not appear, because only the near appears as direct perception. Furthermore, direct perception itself should not be the enterer, because it only makes the things near appear. The nature of merely making it appear is not entering, because that would excessively lead to the inability to stop entering. If it is said that direct perception only clings to what is happening in the present, thereby entering future things, then, isn't inference also clinging to the things to be obtained, thereby other conceptual thoughts themselves are not the enterer? Why not admit it? Or because one conspicuously clings to one's own nature without meaning. If it is said that inference is not the enterer, and because it touches nothing, it is not a valid cognition, while direct perception is a valid cognition because it touches things, then, which part of direct perception touches things, that part is not a valid cognition, because it is separate from the enterer, because clinging to the things that will be encountered is not done by direct perception. If it is said that direct perception that generates realization is a valid cognition, then, through what means will direct perception enter into the realization that is about to enter? Or direct perception itself is the enterer, if so, then generating conceptual thought is not the enterer. If so, then is conceptual thought itself the enterer? Doesn't conceptual thought have no clinging to things? How does it enter things? Or if it is said that although conceptual thought does not cling to things, it enters because it conspicuously clings to the external environment, then, inference clings to nothing, even so, isn't it also entering because it conspicuously clings to the external environment? Therefore, valid cognition will not be lost. Or, the realization that follows what is seen should be the enterer, apparent
