Therefore, how can one ascertain that the desired consciousness of the eye, etc., is truly real? If it is because one sees the function of things, then one will obtain something meaningless. As it is said, by what valid cognition is it understood that the consciousness of the eye, etc., which is characterized by an unperverted appearance, and which is closely expressed by way of example, is meaningful? Because there is no difference between the appearance of objects seen in dreams and vertigo and the objects that appear before one. However, it is seen through the function of things, that is, following and opposing. For example, the appearance of objects seen when awake is known by others who have seen it before, and also by oneself through inference, and will also be obtained later, so it can be considered the function of things. If so, then the knowledge of dreams and other knowledge of names and reasons will become meaningless, because they have no external following and opposing. Furthermore, there is no sign that the knowledge of dreams is understood to be meaningless. There is no memory of the arising of knowledge that the knowledge of dreams is not established in the world when awake. If so, if dreams are not established for worldly people, then what is perceived by worldly people is not not established for worldly people, because this would lead to appearing as inverted. However, one knows what does not exist in the world as the way of worldly people. If so, then the nature that does not exist for worldly people will become endless. Therefore, it is unreasonable for names, etc., to be related to the speaker. However, names, etc., are related to things and expressed through sound, so it will be possible to understand things. If so, reply: Without relation, there is no function, if related to things, past and future are not spoken, with things, they are simultaneously destroyed. As it is said, if names, etc., have a relation, even so, the past and future will not become objects of speech, because names, etc., are destroyed and unborn simultaneously with the things themselves. However, if names, etc., are not related to anything, even so, because they are not related to things, etc., it will not be possible to function clearly, because names, etc., have no function, and things cannot...

It is for the sake of knowing. Because sound holds the general characteristic. If you don't want it to be a fault, otherwise the general characteristic is arbitrary. Because there is no holding, even if holding, if that is not the general characteristic, it is not clear. Therefore, it always becomes the object of focus. It is said because it is constant. However, the power of sound only holds the general characteristic, but it is not the nature of the object of sound itself, therefore, in order to hold the general characteristic. If it is said that this is a fault, the senses become meaningless, which will not happen. Like this, if the sound speaks of its own nature, then there will be this fault, but if only the general characteristic is the object to be spoken of, then it is not. That is not, because it does not hold the arbitrary general characteristic, but the general characteristic together with clarity, because it appears in the knowledge arising from sound. However, if the arbitrary general characteristic itself is the object of sound knowledge, therefore it holds the arbitrary general characteristic of the past etc., if you say so. Here it is said, if holding the arbitrary general characteristic, then there is no establishment of the past etc., because the general characteristic is not the nature of the past etc. However, if the clarity of the past general characteristic is related and called past, if you say so. In that case, because it is only held together with clarity. The past is not the nature of clarity, so how is it known that the general characteristic is the past itself through the way of clarity disappearing? Or, if holding the arbitrary general characteristic, it will not become the general characteristic of those clarities, nor will it become the object of clarity, because it is held as self-sustaining without relying on clarity, so it is impossible to be related to it, and because it is the cause of being realized by one's own knowledge, it is not like lamps etc. that make it clear. If the general characteristic is known without knowing the clarity, then the clarity is not the object to be clarified. Therefore, because clarity is separated from the function of being the object to be clarified, the general characteristic always becomes the object of focus, just like seeing a kind in an empty place. If you ask: In what way is the general characteristic that always appears always seen? Therefore, it is said because it is constant, tending to always become the object of focus. From clarity: If clarity itself is directly perceived, having the power to generate knowledge in itself, then that is capable. However, if sometimes it is not capable, then it is always incapable.
