Commentary on the Commentary, Volume Nineteen. Hair, eggs, candles, etc., how can they appear clearly to those with different perceptions? How can the mind become such a direct perception? It is said that for anything like hair, eggs, and candles that have different perceptions, they appear clearly and the same, so the mind is similar to that. How can something that grasps inverted objects become direct perception? It cannot become direct perception. If it is said that candles and the like are not direct perception because they are harmful, then what causes the harm? If it is said that it is because they are seen as cut off, then there is also harm to pillars and the like that have not been seen before. Therefore, for the sake of summarizing, from recognition, letters and the like are not necessarily the same. It is said that therefore, cognition itself is what is called "recognition," and it does not grasp letters and the like as being the same. For example: If there is no memory of previous experience, and no fabrication of that dharma, and no knowledge of "that is this," then from where does the sensory consciousness arise? It is said that if there is no memory of previous experience, and no fabrication of the nature of what has been experienced before as being related to the previous dharma, and no thought of "that is this," then there is no such recognition of that nature. How can the memory and fabrication of previous experience become consciousness arising from the senses? Because consciousness arising from the senses only manifests objects that are near. Direct perception does not apply to what is before and after, and if it did, all knowledge of the past and future would become direct perception. If it is said that direct perception does not apply to the different forms of what is before and after, but applies to what is before and after, but the general characteristics are not different, then if direct perception grasps the non-different things of what is before and after, then it will also grasp the different things. If direct perception does not grasp the different things, then the general characteristics of blue and yellow that exist at the same time will also be seen as the same. If the appearance of what is before and after is direct perception, then will it not become what is produced now? Like the blue and yellow that are produced now. Even so, what is before and af

If one applies direct perception to non-different things, then it will become something that has just arisen, how can it be the former? If you say that it is the former because it has not been seen before, then how do you know that it has been seen before? Like this, what is seen later is caused by what has not been seen before, and what has not been seen before is destroyed, and it does not exist now. How do you know that what has not been seen and not recognized before is what is seen? If you say that even if you did not recognize it when you saw it before, you are grasping the object related to it, then, in that case, what did not exist when you saw it before, and the appearance of the form that exists when you see it at the moment it arises, the things seen before and after are completely different. To recognize it as the same thing is mindfulness, which is delusion, not direct perception. Therefore, it is not long, etc. If you say that because things and consciousness arise simultaneously, they will not be interrupted by hearing sounds, then, The experience of things and consciousness, It is not considered to arise simultaneously. Things and the consciousness of things are different, Nor is it recognized in appearance. It is said that the experience of things and the consciousness that grasps them are not considered to arise simultaneously, because two consciousnesses do not arise simultaneously, which is a characteristic of the mind, so it is said. These two, things and the consciousness of things, are also not recognized as different in appearance, but are known as blue, etc., by the nature of self-awareness, not by other consciousnesses. If you say that blue and experience are known to be different by the nature of one, For example, like happiness and consciousness, then, The consciousness that appears as things, And the external things themselves, If grasped by the mind in one way, Then it will become without difference. It is said that because it does not hold the consciousness that appears as things, and the external things themselves, therefore, the things grasped by the mind in one way, blue and its consciousness, and happiness and experiencing it, will become without difference. Because there is no different consciousness operating in these things from happiness, etc., and blue, etc.
