For example, like lamps, there is a difference between what is illuminated and what illuminates. A butter lamp and a vase are interdependent, which is a common saying. For example, both lamps have the nature of light. Although they are the same, they are not the object to be illuminated and the object that illuminates. Similarly, the mind is also like that. For example, a butter lamp and a vase are interdependent, that is, they depend on light. The vase is the object to be illuminated, and the lamp is the object that illuminates. This is a common saying. Similarly, knowledge and things can also be established as the terms of what illuminates and what is illuminated, but ultimately, it is only self-awareness. That's all for what was mentioned in passing. Furthermore, merely relying on objects and senses does not necessarily determine "seeing." Therefore, from where is it determined that this is its, or does it appear as another knowledge? The meaning is that merely relying on objects and senses, without consciousness, cannot determine the arising of "seeing." If merely relying on objects and senses could determine "seeing," then all things should be determined as "seeing." If it is said that only seeing itself can be called seeing, and not everything, then what is this "seeing"? If it is said that it is making knowledge the object, then what is this "seeing"? The same question can be asked about this. If it is said that what the eye directly faces is seeing, then how is it known that the eye is directly facing? Therefore, the seeing of the eye also needs to rely on other knowledge, and in this way, there will be an endless dependence on the eyes and so on. Therefore, in order to determine from where one sees and to determine that this is seeing, the seeing of the eyes and so on, or other knowledge, is self-awareness, otherwise, "seeing" cannot be determined. Self-awareness can also be established from memory. If it is experienced by other knowledge, because there are too many letters and there is no pause, it will not be possible to grasp long vowels and so on. The meaning is that not only from the knowledge of the object and the difference of that knowledge is the self-awareness of knowledge established, but also from memory, self-awareness can be established. If it is said that memory only establishes experience, and not self-awareness, other knowledge can also remember the knowledge of things.

If you say that, it is not so. Why? If other knowledge is experienced, then short, one-third, half a month, one month, etc., will not be completely grasped, because the letters or vowels do not stay for long. For example, when two short sounds are added together, there is no staying when the second vowel occurs. Even if they do not stay, it is not possible to hold the non-staying vowels, etc., together with the previous non-staying vowel, as previously stated. Therefore, short, triple, moon, etc., are not grasped. When grasping each vowel, it is not grasping long, etc., just as saying short and long. However, if it is self-awareness, how does it grasp long, etc.? For experiencing a mind with the aspect of long, it is established as grasping long. However, because the letters stay, do you grasp long, etc., from grasping the staying letters? Here it is said: If staying, then there is no order, because the mind appears simultaneously. Letters without order become long. If the letters stay, then do those letters appear simultaneously in one mind? Or are they examined in sequence? If they appear simultaneously, then because they appear simultaneously in one mind, how do the letters become long? Because it is only for that which appears to have a temporal sequence that is established as long, and it is not sequential. If you think, 'Let this not become a fault,' and grasp the letters in sequence, here it is said: How can the parts of sequential letters, mutually without mixing, generate non-sequence? The parts of sequential letters, having the nature of before and after, mutually without mixing, that is, those without combination because they do not stay, how can they generate one mind?
