What is the arising entity? It is the real entity arising from faults, having the appearance of being inverted. For those who conform to the Dharma, such as seeing, it is like independent cataracts, etc. This is what it means. It is not that delusion arises from seeing what conforms to the Dharma, but rather, whatever arises from inner defilements such as ignorance and cataracts, that exists. Whoever has delusion arising from inner defilements, that is born from the faults of consciousness, etc., and in terms of its nature, it appears as not being true, and whoever does not rely on seeing what conforms to the Dharma, that is delusion. The word "etc." includes similar things. For example, the consciousness of someone with cataracts, etc., does not depend on seeing hairs, etc., and appearing in accordance with the Dharma, but rather it is due to inner cataracts. Is the consciousness of hairs, etc., arising from cataracts not born from the power of the thing itself? How is the consciousness of cataracts taken as an example? It is not, because it is desired to appear only from an inner cause. The inner cause is also only habit that pervades all objects, but cataracts are not. That habit is also preceded by another consciousness, and that is also preceded by another consciousness, so because there is no end, it will become a transmission of habits of non-existent consciousness. In order to show the validity of the Vijnanavada school, it is said: In that, the mind is the eliminator, it is the aspect of grasping that is accepted, it is self-aware because it is its nature, therefore it is the establisher. As it is said, in terms of the Vijnanavada, what is the mind that eliminates the appearance of blue, etc.? If asked, it is because the aspect of grasping is its nature, because of the nature of eliminating, it is self-aware, that is, it is experience. Therefore, that aspect of grasping is the valid means of establishing that self-awareness. In terms of external objects, the aspect of consciousness is the valid means, because the external object is the object to be measured. Are the object to be measured and the measurer not abiding? In this Vijnanavada, consciousness itself is empty of meaning, but it exists in external objects.

If not, how is it to be established as valid cognition, etc.? Answer: In this regard, measuring with self as the object, like desire, etc., is like the four reasons. The establishment of the object to be measured, the means of measurement, and the result, this should be universally applied. For those who assert external objects, how can the valid cognition that takes itself as the object be like this? The mind of desire, etc., is the result, just as oneself is the object to be measured. The establishment of the object to be measured, the means of measurement, and the result, this should be universally applied to all things such as blue, etc., because blue is the object to be measured, and it is the valid cognition of the nature that can definitely determine blue. In particular, because happiness and knowing blue are known by oneself, everything is self-cognizant. The aspect of holding blue, etc., is not the self-nature, but is happiness, etc., not the self-nature? Then, how to use happiness, etc., as an example? Answer: In this regard, also because the experience is the self-nature, they can experience their own self-nature. Such an able-to-experience self-nature is the inferential valid cognition, the self-nature of blue, etc., is the object to be measured, and self-cognition is the result. If happiness, etc., are the nature of clarity, so they are the self-nature, then what is the so-called nature of clarity? Is it not the non-obscured nature? If so, then blue, etc., are also the non-obscured nature, so it is the nature of experience. Moreover, because the meaning of blue is the nature of experience, it can recognize its own self-nature, the nature of recognition is the nature of being able to experience, this is the inferential valid cognition, the self-nature of blue, etc., is the object to be measured, and self-cognition is the result. Then, didn't the teacher already say that desire, etc., are the valid cognition of self-cognition? If you think, how can what I said, the aspect of holding as the proof, not be contradictory? The aspect of holding me, is the nature of complete severance, is called able to know. After doing so, the teacher said that the valid cognition of knowing me is the non-conceptual self-cognition.
