Just as appearances manifest, previously unseen places and times will also become visible. Therefore, since objects such as places and times are not appearances, how can they become objects of apprehension? If it is said that although mistaken consciousness has no real meaning, it appears as having such characteristics, that is correct. I also do not understand such a thing. That is to say, I do not understand such an apprehension of objects because its meaning is essentially invisible. Therefore, everything is only self-awareness. Now, if there are no aspects of the apprehended and the apprehender, why are worldly people so attached? Although the nature of mind has no parts, due to inverted views, the cognition of the apprehended and the apprehender will appear as if they are different. Just as by stirring with mantras, etc., for the senses, lumps of clay, etc., even if they are separated from form, will appear in other forms. It is said that attachment to the apprehended and the apprehender does not exist, because attachment itself is the essence of self-awareness. Nominal designations are also consciousness itself, showing that the essence of consciousness is ultimate. Commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition, Volume Fifteen. Therefore, although the nature of mind is separate from the aspects of the apprehended and the apprehender, those who have inverted views, because the apprehended, the apprehender, and experience appear as different, will recognize this. For consciousness, clinging to the appearance of blue as existing, thinking it is its object, but seeing is inevitably without substance, therefore people think that is its meaning, so why is the blue that corresponds to seeing not valid cognition? It should not be analyzed in that way. Now, if what one sees is not in front of oneself, but others can see it, therefore one knows that there is meaning from seeing it. If it is said that others seeing meaning is also valid cognition, how is that established? Because one has not experienced what others have seen. Or, because opening the eyes can see each other's nominal terms, are the things seen by oneself and others not the same? From the view of nominal terms, it can be inferred that the continuum of others is the same as oneself, corresponding to the view.

Isn't it? The non-Buddhist cannot be inferred as being the same, because after seeing smoke, due to the presence of sparks, it cannot be inferred that there are sparks in one direction of the mountain. Furthermore, if seeing similar terms allows one to infer that one's own and others' views are the same, then seeing a woman's mandala would lead one to infer that the happiness in others' minds is the same as the happiness in one's own mind. Therefore, just as blue and other things established by self-grasping have the aspect of being apprehended, they are not the objects of others' consciousness. However, they are indeed different from what others see. Therefore, saying that there are no parts such as the apprehended is foolish consciousness. For example, those whose senses are disturbed by mantras and eye diseases, etc., will perceive lumps of clay, etc., as appearing in different forms such as horses and elephants. Therefore, even if separated from the form of elephants, etc., they will appear in that way. Similarly, consciousness that is separated from the apprehended, etc., also appears in that way. If it is said that the elephants, etc., produced by mantras, etc., are real existents that appear, that is not correct. Because those with undisturbed eyes do not see those things. For example, in a distant wilderness, small things appear large. Just as in this way, for example, a person with eyes disturbed by mantras, etc., sees horses, etc., similarly, a person with eyes undisturbed by mantras, etc., does not see the forms of elephants, etc., in lumps of clay, etc., so the nature of horses and elephants does not exist. If it is said that the inconceivable power of mantras, etc., may have the ability to produce elephants, etc., then how should this be established? Just as in this way, on a wilderness plain, trees, etc., growing far away, even if small, appear as large as mountains, tall and long. If it is said that if there are no parts such as the apprehended, then how should the object to be measured, the means of measurement, and the result of measurement be established? The object to be measured, the means of measuring, and the result exist, even if the apprehended and
