In order to establish the distinctions of meaning in consciousness, it is said, "When consciousness is together with an object, whatever is experienced as its own nature at that time, that itself is definitely the meaning." This means that when consciousness is connected with an object, it is together with the object, that is, it has the aspect of the object. Why is that? Because the part of consciousness clings to the blue aspect as the meaning. At that time, the nature of consciousness, that is, the experience of having a blue aspect, through the power of habit, will be certain that it is the meaning. Therefore, those who speak of consciousness-only also, through the power of certainty, know that the knowable consciousness is the result, the aspect of what is grasped is the knowable, and the aspect of the grasper is the result. Furthermore, those who speak of external objects as real should also acknowledge that self-awareness is the result. For example, "If one experiences a pleasant or unpleasant aspect, by that pleasant or unpleasant, it becomes the knowing of the meaning." This means that if consciousness experiences a pleasant aspect, or experiences an unpleasant aspect, then at that time, the meaning will become pleasant or unpleasant, that is, it will become an agreeable aspect or a disagreeable aspect. If consciousness has other aspects, then can't the thing itself be known as having other aspects? Therefore, in order to establish meaning according to experience, self-awareness becomes the result. If meaning exists, then isn't it reasonable for the knowing of meaning to be the result? Even if meaning does not exist, is there no opportunity for self-awareness? Answer: It is said, "Even if external objects exist, however, as truly experienced, that definite self-nature is not self-nature, because there is the fault of becoming many entities." For those who speak of consciousness-only, they do not acknowledge that self-awareness is other, however, because self-awareness itself exists. Regarding this, even if external objects exist, but that self-awareness that is truly experienced is the self-nature of the meaning's determination, but not by its own self-nature. Self-awareness is reasonable at all times. Why is that? Because there is the fault of becoming multiple entities. For the same thing, it is impossible to both want and not want it, so it cannot be experienced as multiple aspects. However,

If someone asserts that there exist things that possess the nature of various forms, such as liking and disliking. To that, I reply: Even if it is admitted to be different, it will not become two experiences. That is, even if it is admitted that things have multiple self-natures, if two people look at it simultaneously, one recognizes the form of liking, and the other sees a different form, it will not become different because of that, because not recognizing the mixed nature of the object will become confusion. However, one will not experience two forms for the same thing, because what I see and what others see are the same. If the form of dislike appears to follow the form of liking, then, because the things that are liked and disliked are the same, it will be recognized as one. If it is obscured by seeing, it will not be recognized by the power of things. That is, even if the things that are liked and disliked have multiple natures, one will not see two forms simultaneously, because one form is obscured by the karma of not seeing. Therefore, if someone asks, will one grasp the single self-nature of liking or disliking that is not obscured? If so, then how karma recognizes things is not recognizing through the power of things, because things have multiple forms, and recognition is of a single essence. Therefore, that is not truly recognizing things as they are. Or, the meaning of being obscured by not seeing is, if it is not seeing two forms, even so, because seeing itself eliminates the cognition of recognizing as one, how can two forms be one? Furthermore, like having cataracts, it is unseen, just as cataracts obscure the moon appearing as one, unseen also eliminates the thought that there exists a thing with two forms, therefore it is not recognizing through the power of things. Therefore, why not admit that it is precisely unseen that establishes the knowledge of emptiness of things? If someone says that unseen cannot generate the knowledge of emptiness of things, but it can obscure the phenomenon that appears to abide in a suitable object. To that, I say: Things are real existences with multiple self-natures, one
