It is the cause of error. That is to say, for many things such as form and taking water, the designation "vase" is applied. This basis of designation, that is, where the cause of the knowledge of the part-holder exists, that is the basis of designation. The thirteenth volume of the commentary on the Pramāṇavārttika. The other meaning is water, and the imputation there is the recollection of water and mirages seen before by memory. Or it is a superimposition on the basis of designation, the part-holder. The other meaning of the distinction, that is, the superimposition and the distinction, both are the direct perception arising from the object, and because of its proximity, it becomes the cause of error. Direct perception with proximity is the cause of other errors. Therefore, because there is a cause of error, inference is shown to cut it off. How can the meaning of the hidden be, the distinction of the nature of memory, with the state of dependence on the name, does not grasp the meaning of direct perception. Thus, without the experience of a name, for things like vases, it is the knowledge that follows, and that also deteriorates from direct perception. The so-called "How can the meaning of the hidden be", the distinction that grasps the meaning of the hidden, memory and inference, etc., this depends on the name, that is, depends on grasping the connection. Grasping the connection itself is the name. Then, names etc. are not directly perceived. Similarly, for things like form that have been experienced before, without the designation "this is a vase", it will not be known as "this is a vase", because from seeing the shape of things like vases, the taste etc. will be remembered. However, if only the taste etc. are remembered, and the part-holder is direct perception, then it is not, because without memory etc., the part-holder will not appear. Therefore, because of the superimposition on form and touch, it will be known as "what I saw before is this touch", and things like vases will be considered as following. Direct perception, that is, the deterioration arising from the manifestation of things. Therefore, in order to show that error and conventional knowledge are not born from root consciousness, it is a metaphor and a word of meaning. Oh.

Why is it said "related to cataracts"? Why is it said that the appearance disturbed by cataracts is related to conceptualization? In order to refute that tenet, it is said "related to cataracts." If that is the case, if the vision disturbed by cataracts has no conceptualization, then at that time, because conceptualization is directly separated, it will become manifest cognition. If you think like this, then all that is separated from conceptualization is not manifest cognition. However, that which is not inverted and is separated from conceptualization is manifest cognition. Like this, after examining the object distinguished by characteristics, one enters into the general. What is the characteristic distinction of manifest cognition? Here it is said: The fourth characteristic distinction, it explains what arises from near destruction. Among them, only cataracts represent near destruction. Here it is said that among those apparent manifest cognitions, the fourth apparent manifest cognition, the manifest cognition of cataracts, is distinguished by characteristics from being separated from conceptualization, because it makes it inclined. That characteristic distinction also explains all the knowledge arising from the near destruction of the eye. In that which is related to cataracts, cataracts are also mentioned, because it indicates the harm existing in the eye. All the knowledge arising from the near destruction of the eye is apparent manifest cognition. Some say, "The cause of blue and double moons, etc., is the sense faculty. This tenet contradicts those." Here it is said that the knowledge of the double moon, etc., is indeed the manifest cognition of consciousness, just as in mirages, etc., it is perceived as water. Therefore, separation from conceptualization is an example of verbal inconsistency, cataracts are, but characteristic distinction is not. Some explain it this way, those contradict the scholar's tenet. If the cause of the cognitive function of the sense faculty is particles, even so, what appears there is not, therefore, that is not an object, like the sense faculty. Here it is said that just as the extremely small particles of blue, etc., are the cause and appearance, so also for other double moons and eyes, etc., they are also appearance and cause, therefore, those will also become objects. It contradicts the tenet that seeing the double moon is consciousness itself. If through transmission
