It is not like that. If it is said that because "what is mine" has shortcomings, it should be abandoned, then, when the shortcomings of "what is mine" are seen, it should be abandoned at that time. When is it recognized as the cause of happiness, how can it be abandoned at that time? If it is said that even if the cause of happiness is not abandoned, it will be separated, and at that time, happiness will also become suffering, so the cause of happiness should also be abandoned, then, in this case, shouldn't suffering be accepted in order to generate great happiness after suffering? Therefore, this view of "I" will not contradict attachment and separation in any case. In addition, seeing merits will generate attachment, and seeing faults will prevent attachment. If this is the case, then attachment does not only exist in the gates of the eye and other senses, but also exists in infants and others, because infants and others also have attachment; it also exists in the gates of the eye and other senses with defects, because the gates of the eye and other senses with defects also have the joy of clinging to "what is mine"; it also exists in other meritorious things that are not regarded as "what is mine", because no one is attached to them; it also exists in the deceased and other destroyed things, because there is no attachment to "what is mine" to them. It means that the word "etc." includes things that have not been obtained. Therefore, seeing faults does not prevent attachment. If it is thought that seeing faults will prevent the thought of "what is mine", and if one is away from the thought of "what is mine", then the attachment generated by merits will not arise, because at that time, the concept of "what is mine" will be clarified by seeing faults, then, the answer is: precisely because of this, the thought of "what is mine" is not the cause of seeing merits, therefore, even if merits are not seen, the thought of "what is mine" will not disappear. That is to say, precisely because of this, even if there are faults, the thought of "what is mine" still exists in some cases, because there is no thought of "what is mine" in other meritorious things, and there is no thought of "what is mine" in the deceased and other things.

Therefore, the mind of self-grasping is the cause of seeing merits. Therefore, the mind of self-grasping will not degenerate, even if faults that are not merits are seen. Furthermore, falsely attributing qualities where there are none, arises from attachment. Therefore, it does not harm the cause. How does practice harm it? If one is able to see faults, then upon seeing faults, attachment will cease. Because the power of attachment does not allow one to see faults. Taking qualities that do not exist, arises from attachment to self. Because it is so, therefore, when clinging to the cause of attachment, how can the non-harming practice, which is the nature of meditating on suffering, etc., prevent that attachment? Therefore, viewing as self is not liberation. To this, the Samkhya school says: Viewing as self does not lead to the practice of suffering, but liberation is attained by knowing the difference between nature and the purusha. Thus, the purusha is of an unchanging nature, while nature is other, such as happiness, and of a changing nature. Therefore, they are grasped without analysis. I cannot be liberated, but liberation is attained only by knowing the purusha. To this, the answer is: Because of seeking other supreme meanings, and because of having the wisdom of arising and ceasing. Therefore, this person knows that I am different from the self, etc. Therefore, even by seeing oneness, attachment and non-attachment, that self and the limbs within the object, nature will follow with attachment. Because seeing birth and death itself is a different cessation, because it is different from following and not following. I am the follower, not the follower of happiness, etc. Therefore, because contradictory dharmas exist, it is different. However, the samsaric being has not analyzed this difference. If so, then because of the clinging without analysis, there is no liberation. Because seeking happiness, therefore not striving to abandon happiness, because no one seeks the self separated from happiness. Only before my birth.
