Therefore, attachment to myself will also become attachment to my things. If I am without fault, then there is no cause for detachment. Therefore, those who are attached to myself and my things will not be liberated from samsara because they enter into everything after eliminating all faults. If attachment has faults, then what will arise from it, if it is abandoned? Like this, although it will be like this, because attachment to myself and my things is the cause of samsara, and attachment to my things is faulty, do not be attached to it. If attachment is also considered faulty because of the faults of others, then where is attachment itself faulty, why be attached? Therefore, if attachment exists together with faults, one will not be attached. If attachment has faults, then what will happen? Because it is faulty, it should be abandoned, it is not like that. If attachment is considered faulty because of the faults of others, then attachment should be abandoned because of the faults of the object. If this object is not refuted, it cannot be abandoned. It means that the object is not refuted, attachment to myself is not faulty, because it has merit from the cause of happiness. If attachment itself is faulty? Even so, what is the fault? Because it is faulty, should attachment be abandoned? It is not like that, attachment cannot be abandoned except for the faults of the object. If external things, even if they have merit, should be abandoned, similarly, should attachment, even if it has merit, be abandoned? Here it is said: Merit is connected with faults, abandoning desire, hatred, etc., those that are not seen on the object, what is the order, there is none on the outside. It means that from seeing the merits and faults of desire and hatred etc., it exists, then it should be made non-existent. The merit of accomplishing benefit for myself, and the fault of accomplishing suffering, if I exist, then it will also exist. Therefore, abandoning desire and hatred etc. does not exist. External things depend on their own cause, if it does not exist, then it should be abandoned, therefore, if those faults and merits are on their own object

If one sees that desire and hatred, etc., arise from faults and merits, then one should abandon them, because faults and seeing faults are the cause of abandonment. Whatever the order of attachment to external objects, one should also look at desire, etc., in this way. In the commentary on the Pramāṇavārttika, chapter eleven, even if there are no faults in the object of desire, isn't desire abandoned because one doesn't see the merits of desire? If one says that one doesn't make effort for anything that has no merits, that is not true. Desire doesn't arise from the merits of desire, but from seeing the merits of things. Yes, for something with complete causes, how can one prevent its result? That is to say, desire doesn't arise from seeing the merits of desire, but from seeing the means of happiness? If the cause of desire, the means of happiness, is complete, and if there is self-grasping for it, then how can one prevent the result of desire? Therefore, if there is self-grasping, samsara will not be cut off. Furthermore, seeing faults from desire, it is always the basis of suffering. Even so, one cannot be free from desire, because there is self-clinging, like oneself. That is to say, abandoning desire by seeing one's own faults, what is it that is seen as connected with faults in desire? If one says that because the basis of suffering is not desire, one should abandon it, even if the basis of suffering is like that, one should not abandon desire here, because there is the mind of self-grasping. For example, like not abandoning oneself. Initially, the basis of suffering is oneself, therefore if there is oneself, then later desire is the cause of suffering. If there is no meaning of self-grasping, who will feel suffering? Therefore, both situations are the cause of suffering, so one should abandon them and not desire them. If there are none of these, I will not suffer, the cause is not me, it is also the same as that. Thus, both situations have no faults, therefore both situations cannot be free from desire. That is to say, if I am combined with other causes of suffering, it is because I myself do not have this fault. Desire, dharma, non-dharma, and the self that is the companion of fabrication are the cause of suffering. If one is separated from dharma, etc., I
