Cushion. If it is said that this path does not possess validity, in order to refute the statements of others, it is called reasoning. Since the path of direct realization itself is the cause of obstruction, it is called proof. In order to refute the statement that the path other than that is the view of self, it is called definite arising, which is the fourth kind. Among them, the path of direct realization is the cause of liberation, so three kinds are mentioned. How, like the path shown before, through habituation, the mind-stream or the Alaya-consciousness completely transforms into the nature of joy, becomes the antidote to self-grasping, even if habituating non-self, faults may still arise, just like, virtues may arise in a person with defects. Therefore, if it is said that it is not definitely arising from samsara, then, faults will not arise again, because virtues are the nature of things, and faults are not the nature of things. Why is that? It is said: Consciousness is the dharma of grasping objects, How is it that it exists as it is, Having grasped, it is the nature of existence, It also gives rise to that. For this statement, sentient beings entering the path is consciousness, its dharma-nature is grasping objects. Experiencing objects will become consciousness, but if there is no experience, then it is not consciousness. Grasp objects as they are, not grasping in other ways, otherwise it will fall into confusion. That object also gives rise to consciousness by the nature of existence, the cause that can create the image is the object of consciousness. Therefore, knowing one's own nature is the dharma of consciousness, knowing the nature of existence itself is the object. Therefore, impermanence and non-self etc. are the nature of the object, and consciousness is the grasping of that object itself. If grasping impermanence and non-self etc. is the dharma of consciousness, then, wouldn't it become permanence and self-grasping? Therefore, if one is separated from the desire etc. that has it as its root, wouldn't it become samsara? Here it is said: That also

This is the explanation of "From this nature, one is deluded by other causes; reversion depends on conditions, like the mind of a snake is unstable." The nature of wisdom such as selflessness, that is, the consciousness of this nature, from this, that is, holding the nature of selflessness, from this, the cause of the mind being confused, other similar causes also arise. If so, if the mind is confused by holding selflessness, then the mind will also be confused at other times, so it should be constantly transmigrating, and not liberation? No, why? The reversion of delusion depends on one condition, so it has no root, so it is not constantly present, like the mind of a snake. Thus, permanence and self are both absent, as shown before, and will be discussed later. Therefore, the stains defiled by inner ignorance are adventitious. Thus it is said: "The nature of this mind is luminous." Explanation. Because wisdom holds detachment from permanence, the mind is inherently pure, and stains are adventitious. Thus it is said: "Stains are adventitious." Explanation. Because there is no root of something that does not exist, the permanence of things does not appear anywhere. Because contemplation is emptiness, stains are adventitious. Therefore, "Therefore, if there was no ability before, what ability is there in nature later?" Explanation. Therefore, if there was no ability to hinder seeing that reality at the time of hearing and thinking, then later, when manifesting the path, the mind's continuum transforms into the nature of the path, what ability could there be to generate faults and so on? Thus, even an Arhat with weak faith, etc., also regresses after being free from desire, and manifests the path, or afflictions arise nearby. Therefore, how do afflictions not arise again? Answer: "Although there is ability, it is harmful; the ability to arise is in a solid object; the ability to revert and arise is not present, like fire in mud." Explanation. If faults arise again in an Arhat with weak faith, etc., then inside,

a continuum that has the ability to generate harm, it is not possible to extremely generate a collection of faults. For example, just as land that has become a swamp does not have the ability to generate fire. It is said thus: Harmless and also the true meaning, the essence is reversed, even if diligent, there is no harm, because the mind is attached to that side. That is to say, the essence cannot be reversed without diligence, because one sees faults and enters into virtues, and seeing virtues does not enter into faults. For those who are accustomed to the path, seeing virtues does not lead to faults, and seeing faults does not turn to virtues, because the virtues of the path are harmless, free from all faults, and do not change from the bliss of extreme peace. The harmless path is the essence of wisdom. Essence cannot be reversed, because even knowledge itself would become non-existent. The path is the object of truth, therefore, how can the path be reversed as the object abides? Its harmlessness is the true meaning and essence, which cannot be reversed by the fault of reversal. Furthermore, the mind's attachment to that side is not entering into faults, therefore, it is not entering into diligence for the sake of faults, because it is capable of fully measuring the essence of all things, therefore it is attached to that side of virtue. Even if effort is made, there is no harm to the path. These show the essence of what is called the path. So, even if attachment and hatred become contradictory forms, they do not only harm one, because it is also seen that hatred harms the attachment that can harm, and similarly it is seen that attachment in turn harms hatred. Thus, do the views of self and non-self also not harm each other? Therefore, if it is said that the path does not lead to the attainment of freedom from afflictions, the answer is: Because self-grasping is the only cause, and the nature of cause and effect. Attachment and hatred, even if they are different, do not harm. That is to say, attachment and hatred in me
