It is the desire for future births. However, the Blessed One did not say that the truth of the origin is a special desire for places. So, what is the truth of the origin? It is to exist again, what is existence? It is the desire accompanied by joy, being very happy about this and that. If someone asks: This is called the craving of desire, the craving of existence, and the craving of non-existence. There is no contradiction, because: Whether it is craving or desire, sentient beings obtain happiness and suffering, those who want to abandon and enter, for those who are separated from desire, it is the desire to abandon. That is to say, all those sentient beings who are accompanied by the desire of joy for craving, are the craving of being very happy about this and that. All of these are of three types: the craving of desire, the craving of existence, and the craving of non-existence. Among them, for those who have desires for dwellings and utensils, that is the craving of existence. Whatever is combined with happiness, that is the existence of desire. Whoever wants to be free from suffering, that is the craving of non-existence. From where do sentient beings enter? For example, wanting to obtain and abandon, what is it? It is happiness and suffering. Obtaining happiness and abandoning suffering, that is the meaning pursued. Those who want to obtain happiness and abandon suffering, because they think that it is separated from desire and the desire of craving, so showing the origin has no contradiction. In order to show the fourth way of dependent origination: For those who perceive non-happiness as happiness, for all those who fully enter, attachment to self is the cause, therefore craving is the root of existence. That is to say, the attachment of the mind that has self-grasping and regards it as one is self-attachment. For that self-attachment, whatever attachment there is, that is the cause of entering all places. What is it? For ignorance, for those who are separated from happiness, being deluded by inverted happiness. Therefore, craving is the root of craving. If there is no craving, one will not enter anywhere. Compassion, even without craving, will cause rebirth. Therefore, when fully entering, craving is the cause of acting together.

It is merely an external condition. It is not the immediate cause, but the arising of consciousness itself is the immediate cause, and its external condition is craving, and sometimes it is also compassion. These show the aspect of a condition. Although it transforms in this way, even though the aspect of a condition exists, existence is not a condition. However, in order to show that those with a body will not be separated from desire, it is said: "The birth free from desire is not seen." The teachers say this. "Since desire without a body is not seen, desire arises from the body." It is said in this way. Just as the teacher said that desire is the cause of birth because birth free from desire is not seen, so I also say that desire arises from the body because desire without a body is not seen. Here it is said that even without desire, birth can arise through the power of compassion, therefore, the object of wanting to manifest another birth is made by craving. Because it is the cause of the distinction of joy, craving is merely the extreme birth. Similarly, if the body is also merely a companion that acts together with desire and so on, and only the view of the aggregates of destruction is the immediate cause, in order to show that that itself is what is desired, it is said: "If you accept the reason for establishing the thesis, then the immediate cause is eliminated; if you follow the reasoning, your own tenet contradicts itself." It is said in this way. Because the body of improper attention is the cause of desire, since the body has been accepted as the cause of desire, the cause itself is what is desired. Sometimes, like an object, the body also becomes the cause of awakening habits, and with this reasoning, desire is also established as the cause of the body, because the body is not seen without desire. Therefore, since the body and desire are mutually causes, and since becoming like that is a beginningless cause, the next life will be established. This refutes the doctrine of the Lokayata. Don't matter and qualities arise simultaneously? Therefore, the body and desire are not mutually causes. Here it is said: If birth...

In order to see desire, if it arises simultaneously with birth, then it is established that co-emergent beings were previously established. If it is said that desire and so on are the cause of the body because they arise simultaneously with birth, then the body will not become the cause of desire and so on, because they arise simultaneously. It is not without cause, therefore, because the cause of the same kind is established before the body, other worlds are established. Although it changes in this way, desire itself is the only cause, because ignorance, desire, and karma are the three causes of birth. Therefore, how can desire itself be said to be the cause because it is very happy with this and that? Here it is said: For existence, ignorance is the cause, but it is not said, only desire itself is said, because it continuously throws, and it is immediately after, even from karma, if it exists, it will not arise. For existence, ignorance is the cause, even if there is karma, it is not the cause of offering, desire itself becomes the immediate cause, because it continuously throws into samsara. Even if there is delusion and karma, without desire, it will not throw anywhere, even if it is mistaken for silver, if there is no desire, it will not be taken.
