It makes. Therefore, the result, consciousness, cannot be something else. If it is speculated that there is a self as the agent, then it is said here: Other causes, though near, do not produce the result. If other causes are to be inferred, then that is not present in permanent things. If others gather, they do not produce eye consciousness, but eye consciousness does produce it. Other causes should be inferred, because without it, the result does not arise. Similarly, consciousness arises only from the eye and so on, blessed by the immediately preceding condition. If the self, which is permanent and pervasive, is not present, consciousness will not exist, because it is never separated anywhere. If it is said that even without contradiction, the self alone can produce it, then the sky and so on should also be able to bless the eye and so on, because they are also permanent and pervasive, and exist at the time of consciousness arising. Therefore, the mere existence of the self does not make the self a cause. Occasional occurrences establish that suffering has a cause. Because without a cause, not relying on others, it will always exist or not exist. Regarding this, the truth of the origin also has four aspects: cause, origin, arising, and condition. Among these, cause is to negate non-cause. Arising is to negate inability, because it arises from it, therefore it is arising. Condition is to negate the chief. Now, first it should be shown that suffering has a cause, because it is time-determined. This suffering is definitely with a cause, because it engages with a cause. Its entity is with a cause. If suffering is occasional, then how can it be with a cause? Because without a cause, things will always exist or not exist, because it does not rely on other causes. If it does not rely, it will be shown to have a cause. Just as sharpness and so on of valid cognition and so on do not have a cause, so they will become without a cause.
