One should realize separation from things. Therefore, the definitive knowledge that follows seeing is definitive of what is comprehended by seeing itself. Otherwise, the realization of what was not previously known, the definitive knowledge, would become erroneous. Seeing experiences the distinct nature of what is prior and what is subsequent, while determination establishes it as itself, how could it not become erroneous? Therefore, saying "that is this" is the knowledge of knowledge itself, because first it follows seeing itself, and clings to the hidden nature, therefore it is the knowledge of knowledge. That is, even with the power of present seeing, it clings to the present and knows "that is this." Therefore, the very nature of reason prevents the knowledge of parts. Furthermore, if one also accepts the knowledge arising from the eye and touch, then for the consciousness of the eye, the nature of clear color appears, and for the consciousness of touch, the distinctions of heat and so on appear. For that, the appearance of color and objects with limbs separate from touch is not the case. Therefore, the knowledge clinging to seeing and touching will not appear as "what is seen is what is touched," possessing parts with color and touch. If the consciousness of single thought is not valid cognition, then at that time, how does one enter from the perception arising now, separated from what is prior and what is subsequent, without conceptualization, from seeing? Or, if one admits that one enters by connecting the intervals of what is prior and what is subsequent, through recollection, then, like this, one will not cause a person to enter from what appears manifestly. Otherwise, because there is entry into the object to be grasped, even experiencing burning and cooking, one will enter without interruption. Therefore, the result of entering into the object of seeing by desire itself is knowledge, and for the knowledge of mixing grasping with that, there is no need at all, because for others, the term is established. If that is the case, then because one enters by desire itself, does it become valid cognition? Although it may become so, but because one enters the object of seeing by desire, if seeing itself is not valid cognition, then like this, friends, opening their eyes and seeing form and entering will also not become valid cognition. The measure of what is to be grasped, what grasps, and desire.
