When relying on nourishment and the like, and entering a state of unprecedented mental agitation, some will become exceptionally wise, while others will remain as they are, this is certain. Because the combination of nourishment is the same, it will not change in that way, and even though everyone is familiar with the treatises, why does it seem that there is no certainty in the treatises? Therefore, it is certain that whatever one has become accustomed to in the past, the habit will be awakened by nourishment and the like. Are desire and the like not the very nature of the mind? If they also strengthen the body through nourishment and the like, they will become clear and increase, so like desire and the like, the mind will also become dependent on the body. If it is not so, it will not follow it, if you say so, that is not the case. Attachment and so on increase with bodily strength and so on, and sometimes arise from happiness and suffering, because those elements are close to the inner meaning of equilibrium and so on. The increase of desire and so on from bodily strength and so on is not always the case, but it is only occasional, that is, when improper attention is directed to manifestation. For those who meditate on ugliness, the opposite happens, and there is no attachment. The increase of desire and so on also arises from happiness and suffering themselves, experiencing happiness increases desire, and experiencing suffering will generate hatred. If hatred arises from suffering, it is because afflictions cannot endure everything, and these very desires to be free from suffering are hatred itself. Here, it is not certain that hatred will arise if one becomes miserable, because even if one who has complete understanding becomes miserable, one will make even greater efforts to be free from the suffering of others rather than experiencing one's own suffering. Even if it changes in that way, if the very nature of the mind is happiness and suffering,

Whatever cave is near, it will grow from there. The meaning here is that happiness arises from focusing on the distinctions of inner touch, not from the aspect of dependence. Therefore, the body as a basis does not generate happiness and suffering, but rather from the aspect of the object. Because it is an object, happiness and so on are the basis because they are the cause, but if the external object is also an object, then it will become a fault of being a basis. When one sees the distinctions of inner objects, such as the desirable, then happiness and suffering depend on external objects, not the object-basis, and if it changes, the change is not either. Just as happiness arises from an inner object, and its nature is suffering, when one sees the desirable, the transfer of the external object, similarly, happiness will transfer to other bodies in other worlds. Does consciousness not arise from the power of the eye and so on? Because the eye is transformed by cataracts and so on, the eye is changed. Just as eye consciousness depends on it, the mind also changes in a body transformed by accumulated diseases, because it is generated by its power, does the mind depend on the body? Here it is said: Therefore, from accumulation and so on, loss of mindfulness and so on are spoken of. What is born from the inner difference, only wisdom changes. Like this, attachment and so on are shown to arise from happiness and suffering, therefore loss of mindfulness and so on are also spoken of, and the word 'and so on' includes foolishness and distraction and so on. There too, it is only wisdom that generates the change of mind by focusing on the distinctions of inner meaning by accumulation and so on, not the body, because the body transformed by accumulation and so on is not suitable as a basis for consciousness. The eye and so on are the objects of dependence because they follow and return, and change when it changes, but the body should not be the object of dependence, because even if the body does not change, seeing rakshasas and so on will turn into loss of mindfulness and so on. If it is based on external objects, how does the mind change? It is said: For example, some lineages of former mothers.
