Everything is destroyed, so sprouts and the like will disappear. Or: If the proximate cause does not change, the changes of that which has a proximate cause cannot be done, like a potter; without change, like a pot, etc. That is to say, if the proximate cause does not change, it cannot cause the consciousness of the proximate cause to change, because one has not seen pots, etc., change without the potter changing. Whatever change of the result comes from the cause, this is the dharma of the proximate cause. Of the many causes that have become proximate, which one is the unique proximate cause for which? Even if the body is the cause, the change of the body itself does not cause the consciousness to change. Because one sees that when the body does not change, the mind changes due to death and sorrow, etc. Does water not also change the sprout? If it is said that it is not the proximate cause, that is not right, because the continuous cause is the proximate cause. The seed is also a continuous cause, while water, etc., are for making it a special state. Ability, etc., are common causes, so they are not continuous. Water, etc., do not stop the continuation of rice, because even without water, etc., the continuation of rice does not stop. Any state of the sprout that has a continuation of water will definitely stop if there is no water. Therefore, the body is not the proximate cause, so even if the body is changed by wind, etc., the mind will not change. Then, how is it determined that the body and mind are not the proximate cause and that which has a proximate cause? If a thing does not change, whatever thing changes, it should not be its proximate cause, like a cow and cow dung, etc. That is to say, whatever thing, i.e., the body, does not change, and whatever thing changes, i.e., the consciousness changes due to sorrow, etc., then the body should not be its proximate cause, for example, the cow does not change, but the cow dung changes, so it is not its proximate cause. The cow and cow dung are not the proximate cause and that which should be the proximate cause, so they are not stopping and causing to stop, so what is similar between the body and mind? If it is said that because others have faults, others will not become faulty and virtuous, is that not so? Here

It is said: Mind and body are both like that. That which is the cause, the producer of the result, dwells together for the sake of companionship, like the melting of fire and copper. As it is said, the cause of that, that is, the cause of body and consciousness, arises in the previous time. Body and consciousness themselves produce the result, which is characterized by making the state of the body more and more special. To be a companion is to benefit together. To dwell together is like the melting of fire and copper. For example, the melting of fire and copper exists together. The companion is because the melting of copper is produced from the existence of fire. Likewise, the mind is the companion of the body, and the body is also the companion of the mind. Because the body and mind are produced more and more, the body and mind dwell together. Thus it changes, but if the body and mind are not closely taken, then it becomes a support. Therefore, when the body is destroyed, consciousness reverses, and it does not move to another body. For example, a painting on a wall destroys when the wall is destroyed, and it does not go to another wall. If it is said like that, it is not true. Why? Because paintings and so on dwell on cloth and so on, it is not known to come from another support. The mind is the state of awakening that follows the body of the dream's edge and the body of fear and so on, and at the time of the first birth, it is understood to follow the actions of dwelling in the body of another birth. Therefore, it is not like a painting that is determined by its own support. The support itself that is determined by itself is because it is destroyed when the body is destroyed. Furthermore, because there is no support itself in the body or elsewhere, how can it be destroyed when the body is destroyed? Paintings and so on are not different from the wall, so it is destroyed by its own nature, not by the destruction of the support. If so, because there is no difference, it has not become the object of support and the supported. How can the body and mind not become the support and the supported? Here it is said: Because there is no support for existence and non-existence, the support is not the cause of dwelling. If it exists, then this has no support, because it is not different from the dweller. Even if it is different, it is also its cause, its object in
