Is it because it is impossible to endure suffering, or because life is exhausted, that it is said that it cannot be slightly healed? What is called life is the characteristic of the existence of karma, and it is said that even if life is exhausted, diseases and the like cannot be slightly healed. Or it may be said that it is exhausted because the power of virtuous and non-virtuous karma is exhausted. If one is separated from karma, then the proximate causes such as wind are not entirely impossible to heal, because they can initiate the changes that occur again. Is it not the case that the changes caused by wind and the like in a corpse are irreversible? Just as the changes caused by fainting and the like in a child can be reversed, what happens at other times is not the same, because the body itself no longer exists. But in the case of fainting and the like, because the body exists, if there is no change, consciousness will arise. Is it because the corpse is either burned, or has the peculiarity of having already been transformed, and because it has decayed, it cannot be revived? If this is said, then what is to be said here is that the body or the collection of elements is not the cause of the arising of consciousness, and this has already been clarified. The cause of consciousness is the mind, and just as in sleep and waking, it will take other rebirths, and this should be explained. Or: Because the corpse gathers poisons and the like, even if its wounds are cut off, why will it not revive again, since it is separated from the cause of change? To this question, the corpse of an animal gathers fresh things such as poisons. Just as when it is alive, poison pervades the whole body, after death, wounds will appear. If the injured body part is cut off, because it is seen that the animal will not die. Because of the reason for cutting off the wound, and also because the word "also" indicates the combination of medicines such as Agada. Separated from the cause of change, that is, poison, why will it not revive again? Therefore, the body exists, and consciousness will not regress, because this is a necessary conclusion. This statement is valid. Although it transforms in this way, just as a seed that has been burned by fire is not the cause of a sprout, so too here, a body that has been transformed by plagues and the like is not the cause of consciousness at the time of death. What is to be said here is that faults are not completely cut off, because they can initiate the changes that occur again. The ability to produce sprouts of Salu and the like is completely present in the seed.
