It is not so. What is called helpful to knowledge is the body, but even so, just by the body, etc., just being helpful, does not cause the transformation of consciousness. For example, what is helpful to a pot, etc., is fire, so it can bestow qualities such as redness, but even so, it does not cause it to transform. It should be said here that if the mind dwells in the body, it would fall into the fault of not changing. Because "If that exists, it exists, and it is controlled by it. That breathing is not from that." If the cause of consciousness is the body, then even if it dwells in the body, as a support, the mind will not change. Are arising and breathing not the cause of the mind? Therefore, if a dead body does not have arising and breathing, will consciousness transform? Here it is said that arising and entering come from the mind itself, therefore, without the mind, there will be no entering, etc. Why? Because if that exists, it exists, that is, if the mind exists, there will be arising and breathing, and if the mind does not exist, there will be none, therefore it is certain that arising and breathing are related to the mind. Also because it is controlled by it, if arising and entering are not produced by the mind, then at that time they will not be controlled by it, therefore arising and entering are considered to be controlled by the mind. If arising and entering are produced from other causes, they will not depend on the mind, because the things of the mind cannot control things that are related to other causes. Or rather, arising and entering are produced from other causes, therefore they do not necessarily come from the mind, like a master to a servant. That is not true, because the arising of becoming a servant is produced from other causes, not produced by the master. But arising and breathing cannot arise without the mind, therefore they are related to the mind. Even when sleeping, there is arising and breathing, but at that time there is no mind, so how can they be related to the mind? It is not so, all violent changes, etc., follow the differences in the habits of previous consciousness, for example like this.

Because of being accustomed to other breaths, one wanders to other places in dreams. Because of being accustomed to very long times, the breath also becomes long. To this it is said: From what does the exhaling and inhaling of breath arise without effort? To this question, if the fruit of life and effort is the mind, then exhaling, inhaling, joy, and drawing in would occur without effort. Therefore, exhaling and inhaling without effort have not been seen. However, the arising of joy and drawing in, and inhaling, are not of the nature of depending on effort, because they arise from other causes. Therefore, the nature of exhaling and so on is not the mind, but the mind has drawing in and joy. Then, is depending on wind a cause? If it is not a cause, then in that case, consciousness would become uncertain, because the body exists. However, if depending on wind is the cause of consciousness, then even in the body of the dead there is the nature of depending on wind. Exhaling and inhaling are the fruit of depending on wind, therefore, the change of mind related to this is not impossible. From its superior increase and decrease, it will become superior increase and decrease. From superior increase and decrease, the mind will also obtain increase and decrease, because it is the fruit of exhaling and inhaling, so undoubtedly it will decrease or increase, that is, the fruit will decay or arise, otherwise how would it become a cause? These have prevented the connection of exhaling and inhaling with the mind, and have shown the connection with the previous consciousness. Now, if the fruit of exhaling and so on is the mind, then in order to show that it will not cease, it is said, "Even if those are the same in extremes." Those exhaling and inhaling are the same in extremes without negation. Depending on the body, or the exhaling and inhaling related to depending on wind, are shown as not ceasing, but just having passed. Even if it is related to the body, but if the body exists, cessation is impossible, similarly, is the cause of the mind the mind, or exhaling and so on, if so, it would be impossible for the mind to cease, because it exists as before, isn't it? To this it is said:
