However, in this way, does consciousness arise from a body with senses, or from a body without senses? Just as nails and so on, consciousness does not arise from that. If someone asks: Why is the state of mind perceived in the direction of the heart? Here it is said: Consciousness does not arise from that which has senses, because it grasps like wisdom. Because the ability to generate consciousness is different, it does not arise from everything. Because there is no mind-essence, it does not arise from others, because there is no separate cause, therefore they exist together, like the senses to form and taste to taste. It is transformed through the door of meaning. The meaning is, is the reason for consciousness the body with senses? Or is it the body without senses? For the moment, it is not the body with senses. Likewise, it is like the wisdom of the senses. Because consciousness itself will grasp, it will lead to the attainment of appearance. Having senses is because it is connected to the senses, so it is the body of the senses. Therefore, consciousness will not arise, just as the clear appearance that arises from the power of the eye. The consciousness that arises from the eye will also appear clearly, this is its conclusion. Is it not seen that from the same cause, different results arise due to different natures? For example, when fire produces smoke and ashes, the differences in these aggregates exist. Therefore, the eye, which is aided by form, gives rise to clearly appearing knowledge, while the eye, separated from form, gives rise to consciousness. Likewise, it should be viewed for the ear as well. If someone says: This is not true, because the knowledge that follows the eye arises from the senses. If the senses do not have the function of consciousness, then how can consciousness be produced by the senses? It will obtain grasping like wisdom, this is its conclusion. For things that follow the function of the senses, we call it the wisdom of the eye grasping things. If consciousness also arises from the senses, then like the knowledge of the eye, it will rely on the senses to understand things. If separated from the function of the senses, how can it be said that consciousness arises from the senses? The function of the eye is also consciousness.

Because there is no object, therefore what arises from the senses is not consciousness. Those have shown that they do not arise individually from the senses. Although it changes like that, if it is said that consciousness arises from the collection of eyes etc., that is because it does not arise from everything, and consciousness does not arise even from the collection of senses etc. Why is that? Because the ability to generate consciousness is different. The ability to generate consciousness is different individually, because they do not depend on each other, the eyes etc. can see. Wherever a fruit is produced from a collection of earth etc., there if one cause is missing, the fruit will not arise. If consciousness arises from the collection of eyes etc. itself, then because it is missing one by one, it will not arise, even if one sense is missing, consciousness can arise from other senses, and the wisdom of consciousness can be seen. Therefore, it does not arise from the collection either. The word ཀྱང་ (kyang, Sanskrit: api, Chinese: also) grasps the previous reason. Or, if consciousness arises from a mindless body, then because it is mindless, consciousness will not arise from other causes, if it is said like that. Then, if the meaning of "because it is mindless" is if it is separated from the consciousness of the senses, that is what is desired. Like this, if it is separated from the consciousness of the senses, then its consciousness, sounds and nails etc. will not arise, but consciousness will arise. Or, if it is because it is separated from consciousness, then it needs to be proven that hair etc. do not have consciousness. Because being separated from consciousness is the reason, a part of the meaning of the vow is not established, if it is said like that. Here it is said, just as when a thinker takes touch etc. as an object, that is consciousness, similarly, consciousness is not for hair and nails etc., because it is related to it, if it does not exist, consciousness will also not exist. If you cut your nails, your mind will be confused, if consciousness does not depend on the body, then how will the body and mind change together? Here it is said, the cause called karma and
