Because there is no different cause for the certainty of co-existence, body and mind exist together, like the senses and form and taste. Just as the senses, form, and taste, although not mutually dependent, exist together for a short time because there is no different cause. If, because of the wisdom of the mind, the change of the senses depends on the eyes, etc., then, when phlegm, etc., causes the body to change, will it depend on the mind because the consciousness of the mind also changes? Therefore, it is said "from the point of view of meaning," meaning the object, that is, from the point of view of striking weapons, etc. Even if the body changes, it will change without dependence. The meaning here is that when the body is struck by swords, etc., and the body changes, the mind also changes. Is it not that merely the change of mind is considered dependence? Just seeing blood, etc., one naturally sees the previous mind change. The mind does not depend only on the external blood. Furthermore, if the body changes and consciousness changes, is it changing as a cause or as an aid? To this, the cause itself does not prevent the body and the consciousness of the mind, because it is not the cause itself. As it is said: "Whatever exists provides help, always follows it, that is the seventh cause, and from this, it is called arising." If it is said that any cause that can prevent, that is, the fruit of existence itself providing help, is the cause of prevention. How does existence itself provide help? Because it always follows it, that is, follows the fruit. Following is following. Always, that is, at the time of the cause. Any cause that exists itself provides help, because it always follows the fruit, it is the cause. If it disappears, the fruit will also disappear. If something that sometimes provides help does not exist, then it will become something that can sometimes provide help, but that itself is not prevention. For example, just like the excellent cause and effect, the cause of rice, etc., the seed, is not prevention.

The fruit of consciousness of the body is absent, even if the body does not change, it is only the previous mind that changes slightly. Because sometimes changes are seen. Therefore, the existence of the body itself does not help the consciousness of the mind. If this is the case, if the body is the cause of the consciousness of the mind, then, is it known after consciousness arises, or is it known without arising from it? It is impossible not to arise from it, because there is no consciousness. Even after consciousness arises, it is not known that a mind with consciousness arises from the cause body. Now, or to the self-nature of the self, focusing on oneself, the discriminating mind that does not focus on it, does not hold other consciousness, because it is too excessive. If it is said that from the consciousness of other people, from the consciousness of the previous body, thereby separately determining the consciousness of the body, then, in the place where other people focus on the body of others, even if they focus on the consciousness of others, wouldn't there be doubt about the consciousness of others? For example, from seeing the fruit body of sleep, just as there is doubt about the consciousness of sleep. Therefore, others will not think that consciousness is the fruit of the body either. Barley gives rise to wheat, and it is not because the existence of barley itself helps to follow wheat, if that is the case, without barley, wouldn't there be the thing of wheat? That is not true, just as barley gives rise to wheat, it is not that wheat arises from itself. The consciousness of the mind is with distraction, and it is not certain for this life and the next. This exists, therefore this exists, this arises, therefore this arises, isn't it the characteristic of cause and effect? How can it be a characteristic without contradiction? Answer, because it always helps, it is said to be the seventh, this exists, therefore this exists, this arises, therefore this arises, the fifth always includes it. Therefore, the characteristics of the fifth and seventh are not contradictory, because the meaning is the same. If it is said that because it helps consciousness, the body is the transformer, then, in response to this, it is said: Like a vase to fire, etc., sometimes to the mind stream, helping is also easy, but that alone cannot transform.
