Pālas. This refers to knowing what is not known as one's own characteristic, which is the arising of a functional consciousness, and this is considered valid cognition. Therefore, general consciousness does not become valid cognition. One strives for this. Because the self-characteristic understood by the initiating consciousness is not understood by general consciousness, it is not valid cognition. Is it not because general consciousness grasps what has never existed before? If it is not valid cognition, then grasping the understood self-characteristic is because it is free from harmful consciousness. If so, then the characteristic is: Here, knowing the meaning of what has never existed before, being certain and having abandoned harm, arising from a faultless source, worldly people consider this to be valid cognition. In order to refute this statement, one must examine the self-characteristic. This refers to the seeing consciousness of the object of measurement of existence and non-existence, which is called valid cognition. On the self-characteristic, one examines existence and non-existence, in order to accomplish the functional thing. For the general, because it is separated from actions such as burning, it does not help valid cognition. General consciousness is not valid cognition because it grasps something that did not exist before, because it is too extreme. For example, seeing two moons also becomes valid cognition because it grasps something that did not exist before. If it is said that it is not valid cognition because one sees harm to it. Then, even if it is something with harm, because it can know the separation from the functional thing, one must examine relying on the self-characteristic. Although that would change, if it is said that general consciousness enters the self-characteristic because it is certain that "this is it." Then, besides what is seen, what else enters like the general "saying"? Because general consciousness does not enter except through what is seen, seeing itself is valid cognition. Furthermore, will general consciousness enter the genus? Or will it enter the self-characteristic? To this, it does not enter the genus, because understanding the need for the general and speaking becomes merely one's own realization. Nor does it enter the self-characteristic, because that is the object of the initiating consciousness. If the object of general consciousness is the self-characteristic, then that is indeed the case, but because it grasps what is grasped, it is not valid cognition, because you (the opponent) consider the pure seeing consciousness itself to have generality.

Therefore, it is so. Moreover, with non-discriminating consciousness, one also grasps things as two, so it is said. At any time, if one wishes to become the nature of ultimate valid cognition, at that time, one can only comprehend the nature of self-awareness. Apart from this, if one grasps the general characteristics, then it is not understanding the true manifestation of clinging. Because of taking and receiving clinging, one should wait for it to transform into valid cognition. If it is said that one does not know the nature of one's own consciousness but knows, and whatever manifests and clings is not valid cognition, then with such intention, it is not the arising of clinging and so on. If so, how did the Blessed One speak of the meaning of external objects? For the sake of taming sentient beings to be tamed, and for the sake of clinging to external objects and taking them, it is shown as the meaning of external objects. However, in the ultimate truth, because of being free from the grasper and the grasped, it is self-awareness itself. From what is that known? It is known from observing one's own nature. After observing, all things that can be grasped and grasped will perish, so it is non-dual. For the sake of observing that non-duality, one should enter all the scriptures. The meaning of particularly explaining external objects is the definitive meaning. If so, how are inside and outside different by their distinctions? Only by the sake of realization, inside and outside are different. Is it not valid cognition only by the distinction between direct perception and inference? How does the Blessed One transform into valid cognition? The Blessed One is the true valid cognition, thus, He possesses the Blessed One is valid cognition. As it is said, how direct perception and inference are valid cognition, so the Blessed One with the body of wisdom also does not deceive, so the Tathagata is, the direct perception of self-determination is only. Only the Tathagata is valid cognition, the Vedas are not valid cognition, from what is that known? In that, there is also the reason of not deceiving in one aspect. Therefore, for the sake of eliminating the non-true. To prove for the true speech. Therefore, it should be known as valid cognition. As it is said, why is eliminating the non-true eliminating the superimposition, therefore, the Blessed One is true or has become, as it is said, the meaning of truth.
