Therefore, the nature of cognition that is established by negation is not possessing self-nature. If something does not exist when something else does not exist, then when that thing exists, that thing does not exist, and when it is negated, it is cognized. For example, like smoke with the absence of fire. Where there is no fire, there is no smoke, therefore, because smoke exists, it negates the absence of fire. Therefore, if audibility itself is posited as the proof of permanence because impermanence (such as a pot, etc.) does not exist, then since audibility itself exists when impermanence does not exist, it cognizes the non-existence of impermanence, so impermanence itself is established. Therefore, since audibility is not seen even in permanent things such as space, the existence of audibility itself also shows the non-existence of permanence. Therefore, since there is no uniquely determined negation, it is not a means of cognition. Thus, if it is said that in non-common characteristics, the determination that is established by negation is not conceptualization, then that statement is not established because that negation is based on not seeing. Since audibility itself and other non-common characteristics are not seen in permanence and impermanence, why would it not become the reason for determining permanence and impermanence? If something is not seen when something does not exist, then it only does not exist when that thing does not exist. Therefore, since audibility itself is not seen when permanence does not exist, it only does not exist when permanence does not exist. If it is not like that, then how would being produced itself be established when impermanence does not exist? Therefore, since audibility itself exists in sound, and it also does not exist when permanence does not exist, how does it not cognize the determination of the non-existence of permanence? Similarly, since audibility is not seen when impermanence does not exist, it does not exist when impermanence does not exist, therefore it itself is what determines impermanence. The commentary says: Audibility itself is also like that. Because audibility is not seen in permanence and impermanence, it is negated from them. Therefore, the reason is established, therefore it becomes the reason for determining them, just as it was said before. It is also established that it does not exist when something does not exist, and that its own existence also does not determine it, this is impossible. Therefore, determining it is no different from negating it. Because it does not exist when something does not exist, negating something from something is no different from determining it from that thing.

Yes, because it is established by that much. If that is the case, is hearing itself set up as something that can be understood? The answer is no, because there is no co-establishment. Merely because of not seeing, negation is not the negation of reason. In order to show this, this is specially arranged. If that is the case, then hearing itself, regarding the non-existence of permanence and impermanence, because of not seeing, and regarding those non-existences, it would become a fault of understanding as non-existent. Therefore, it is the self-existence that shows its non-existence. Because not seeing does not establish non-existence, so in its non-existence, if negation cannot be established even from not seeing, then it will become not a determination. When in what non-existence, there is no seeing, that in non-existence is non-existence itself. If it is determined that way, then, at that time, where there is this, how can there be not that? If there is not that, then this itself will not exist. It is also existent, therefore how can it be said that without that, non-existence cannot be established? What is said is that it is not a determination, starting from "that is not a determination" and ending with "do not speculate". Because it cannot be determined as negation itself, it will become not a determination. Therefore, this is the determination. You, regarding your own school, also doubt how hearing itself is not a determination, and then propose a reason for that, that is not right. Because in your own school, merely because there are no three modes, it has already been established that this is not something that can be understood, so regarding being a determination itself, there will be no doubt. If for others, also because it is not understood by it, will there be no doubt? Indeed, if taking not seeing, which cannot be understood, as a valid cognition, then how can both not establish determination? This has been shown. According to our view, whatever causes this fault, not seeing is not a valid cognition. Therefore, this is in order to establish the tenet of no negation, so it is to refute that not seeing is a valid cognition. If it is not like this, it will become a fault of being a determination itself. Because all things that arise are things that arise from self-destruction, then shouldn't hearing itself also establish the impermanence of self-destruction? No, because there is no co-establishment for understanding.
