A Commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition: The Joy of Bliss. A Commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition. The Joy of Bliss. In Sanskrit: Pramāṇavārttikā-ṭīkā. In Tibetan: A Commentary on the Compendium on Valid Cognition, Volume One. Homage to the All-Knowing! Those who cause the three realms to arise, have conquered all defilements, the Sugatas who have well understood existence, and definitive emergence, and the Dharma that arises from their correct vision, may the wise realize it individually for themselves. May the well-spoken, the stainless, and the Sangha, the eight noble individuals, be victorious! The intention of the great wise ones is unfathomable, and even with effort, it cannot be clearly understood. By fully revealing the nature of mere words and meanings, the ancients have made it clear. Therefore, here, in order to realize it, one should strive to make it clear, and showing it is also for the sake of benefit. For the sake of making those who have not understood, understand, the effort made for this is the fruit of labor. "Having completely dispelled the net of conceptualization," etc., is to pay homage to the Bhagavan Tathagata, whose lotus feet are worshiped by the beings of gods and sages, in order to generate respect for the treatise. When engaging in activities that the world greatly desires, it is customary to first pay homage to the deity that one desires. Similarly, when the teacher composes a treatise, he shows that it is endowed with great purpose because of its great meaning. If one asks, is this worldly act of homage not due to its perfection? The answer is: it is indeed because of the great necessity that the desired is accomplished. Therefore, here, it is intended to show just that. The great necessity is to be permanently free from suffering, because from this comes the realization of the selflessness of persons and phenomena. Furthermore, if he does not express it in his own words, but merely pays homage, which is to be revered, and which is also free from existence, then what is the point of offering? Here, it is merely the teacher showing the flavor of reverence, and although the meaning is to be shown, showing it with the full expression of the heart's flavor is also the Dharma of the measurer. Reverence.
