From these and so forth, I will be realized. If that is the case, then life and so on are established as non-existent in selflessness, because the non-existence of life and so on pervades selflessness, and if there is something to be pervaded, then the pervader must exist. Therefore, if selflessness exists, then the non-existence of life and so on also exists, therefore, here, for the non-existence of what is to be proven, the reversal of the proof does not exist. If life and so on exist, then the existence of self is not established, therefore it only has reversal. Therefore, this is shown as a reason in this way. The order of the commentary is, this is not selflessness, because it is not possessed of life and so on, it is impossible, because not having life and so on follows selflessness, it is only a statement, therefore it will not be clearly shown as having reversal. Therefore, if this is not selflessness, then by closely showing the reversal, and by realizing self through the reversal of that, through this, because this is shown as a reason. This is very clearly shown to have reversal. Therefore, if reversal is established by not seeing, then this will also become a reason. Just as through not seeing, in all places where what is to be proven does not exist, by establishing it as non-existent, relying on the measure of that meaning, similarly, from pot and so on, it is also selflessness. Therefore, even if it is not the characteristic of what is apprehended as self, but because pot and so on are established as selflessness, therefore this is what is to be pervaded, and because the pervading thing is established, therefore from the reason of not following, what is to be proven will also be realized. When only not seeing is the measure, then there is no fault, what is said is, if the invisible is not established as non-existent through non-apprehension, then pot and so on are not established as selflessness. Therefore, in selflessness, the non-existence of life and so on is not established as pervasive, therefore selflessness exists, the reversal of the reversal of life and so on does not exist, as said before. If the pervasion as said is established, then it will change in that way, that is because it is not established, because nothing is established as selflessness. If that is the case, then if selflessness does not exist, then the reversal of life and so on does not exist. If that is really the case, then life and so on

If it is said that it is not possible to say that pervasion is not established merely because one has not seen things that possess life, etc., that is not what is intended to be shown here, but if one does not merely see the valid cognition that establishes the opposite of possessing life, etc., then the pervasion of selflessness and lifelessness will not be established. If, again, because it is not of the nature of being an object of self, then the pot, etc., are not established as selfless, even so, when speaking of selflessness, the pot, etc., are established as selfless, and it is established that those things do not have life, etc., therefore, how can it be said that it is not pervasive? This is because it has already been promised. What dispels this doubt is "How is it now?" etc. This is what is being said: If it is not dependent on being established by valid cognition, but from our promise, the pot, etc., are selfless. The same is true for living bodies, because there is no difference in the promise, so it will not become possessed of self. Furthermore, for those who think that it is established by promise, when speaking of selflessness, how can the valid cognition of selflessness, which is not established as the object of the pot, etc., be established? This is what is being said: For Buddhists, it is not that selflessness is established from non-apprehension, and that which is accepted by valid cognition is not lost for living bodies either. For the time being, there is no dispute between us that those who speak of selflessness have promised that the pot, etc., are selfless. Living bodies are what we accept as having self, so there is a dispute about that. Therefore, because the promised selflessness does not have life, etc., if it is said to be understood, then it will become a promise that the self is established from scripture, because it is a pervasion established by relying on the meaning established by scripture. Merely promising from scripture will become devoid of valid cognition. The explanation of this is "already promised," etc. Because of that, life, etc., are not the object of understanding, because it is not possessed of life, etc., so selflessness is not established, because not seeing the possession of self is the reason for not seeing selflessness. In some cases, if it has already been established as selfless, then
