Because at the time of making the proof, one has complete understanding. When this (reasoning) is either self-inferred or induced by others, just as following after apprehending the dharma of the similar class requires reliance on memory, it is not the same for not seeing in the dissimilar class. Doubting whether it exists or does not exist in the similar class is because one's own memory of focusing on it in that way, or being induced by stating the dharma of the similar class, is reversed. As for doubting whether it exists or does not exist in the dissimilar class, it is to be refuted by not seeing, which is refuted by the very fact of definitely not seeing at that time. For this, memory or words that awaken it are of no use. If it is said that even if it was not apprehended at that time, but to dispel the doubt that it was apprehended before, therefore not apprehending is stated for the sake of remembering, then, for this, the previous statement would lead to reversal, and there is no illusion of seeing (error), which has already been said. If it exists now, then not seeing before depends on memory, just as for seeing two moons, etc., even knowing it is an illusion, even if one recognizes it as an illusion, it does not change, because it has such a nature, so at that time, although it is uncertain because of not seeing, it is certain because it relies on not seeing before. Having an illusion of not seeing before also relies on the present (seeing). Or, if doubting that seeing before is itself an illusion, then that is also unreasonable, because that also does not exist. When making a proof, doubting whether one has seen or not seen in the dissimilar class or the similar class is not (the correct way to doubt), however, when understanding what is to be proven, because there is no doubt, seeing and not seeing both occur only because of not understanding. Therefore, the previous statement would lead to reversal, and there is no illusion of seeing (error), which has already been said. For this, the seeing mentioned here is because it does not exist at that time, so it is reasonable to rely on memory. Not seeing is because it only exists at that time, so what use is memory for that? If one doubts again that one has not seen in the dissimilar class before, if that is the case, then even if it is stated, it will not change, because it is a valid cognition. Words are what awaken the function of definitely understanding not seeing.

If someone asks: Is it through recollection that one dispels (doubt)? The answer is: No, because one recollects without effort, and there is no doubt. If there is a seed of recollection through effort, then recollection itself becomes without doubt. For those who doubt non-recollection even with effort, words are of no help. Therefore, one must rely on the unseen without doubt at that time to ascertain the absence in the inconsistent aspect. If someone asks: Because one must understand that the unseen is pervasive, should one also recollect the previously unseen as a cause to prove that it is repeatedly present? The answer is: The unseen itself does not have the nature of being repeatedly present, because it is not a thing. If someone asks: Is focusing on those supports that are devoid of it, is that repeatedly present? The answer is: This also has existence, because at that time one is not focusing on countless supports. Someone says: If so, even if one is not focusing on the existence in the inconsistent aspect at that time, one cannot say that it does not exist simply because one is not focusing on the unseen, therefore one says this. Therefore, if someone thinks that this is not focusing in some ways, will this misconception that this is completely not focusing on the inconsistent aspect be eliminated? The answer is: If one meets the doubt with the word "not focusing," then one eliminates it with the word "does not exist." For something that has nothing to be proven, the word "does not exist" is used to state that there is nothing to be proven, and that is the language of inconsistency. Through the language of inconsistency, one can ascertain that it does not exist. Then, how can it not exist? It is explained: If one says in what way it does not exist, then at that time it will be understood as "does not exist." "The reason for not existing in what way" refers to explaining the way itself as the nature of reason. Words are to show that it does not exist in the inconsistent aspect. The inconsistent aspect is that which has nothing to be proven. The difference of the support that is empty of what is to be proven is also the focus at that time. For those things, it is not not focusing on the prover. Therefore, where there is no belief even in not focusing, words also show that.
