Merely wanting to express is itself desire. So, does the inference of desire arise from the inference of desire itself? If one doubts this, the doubt is met with "if it is so," and then the doubt is dispelled with "because it is wanting." Merely wanting to express is desire. Actually, it is either of the nature of desire itself, or wanting to express actually becomes of the nature of desire. If one thinks that the former understanding is temporarily unreasonable, then it is explained with "because it is wanting." Merely inferring wanting to express from words, for those who are free from desire, collecting a nature that contradicts it will not cause any harm. If not wanting is established, then it will cause harm, but even if wanting is obtained, there is no reason for it to become harmful. However, if one thinks that the nature of desire is merely wanting to express one's own nature, in order to eliminate this thought, first the nature of desire is shown, and then, reversing from the nature of desire, the nature of wanting is explained, which is the ultimate purpose from "desire is" to "compassion etc. are." Defiled dharmas are those associated with afflictions, referring to the five aggregates of clinging. These are also the suffering that will be explained, whose nature is the singularity of suffering. For these, the mind's attachment and clinging are called desire. For this, not wanting the mind to be separated from attachment, liking to be inseparable from it, this becomes attachment. If one doubts, wouldn't there be attachment to the aggregates of clinging that are suffering? Because suffering is not a place of manifest happiness. Then, the difference in causes is to be explained. The word "view" is related to permanence etc. individually. For the defiled aggregates, it is also because of viewing them as happiness that one wants to be inseparable. Therefore, merely realizing suffering as it is does not cause manifest attachment, but rather it is because of the perverted view of it as happiness. This is also because of viewing it as permanent, and because there is no realization of the connection of the objects seen, there is no happiness, therefore one thinks of it as always being the same.

Therefore, there is present attachment. Likewise, if one does not hold the positions of the author and enjoyer of the result as one in one's own nature, then there is no present attachment to the accomplishment of the result. Such is also said to be the self, because it is the characteristic of the doer and the eater. That is also the understanding that I am different from the five aggregates. Because of manifestation, in the five aggregates and other dharmas, it is said that the present attachment to self and what belongs to self is the object of superimposition, just as it is said that fish bladder is superimposed as silver, and so on. Desire also arises from the view of what belongs to me, because it arises from the thought of 'I'. That which accomplishes the benefit that depends on me, it is said that other things are the things of my meaning, but it is not the meaning of accomplishing autonomy, therefore it has another master. Therefore, in this way, since things are impermanent, and the self is also emptiness, and the aggregates are also only the nature of the continuity of cause and effect, therefore, without the understanding of abiding in one's own nature, it becomes a state of indifference to the accomplishment of the result. Therefore, desire is the antecedent of present attachment to what belongs to me, and so on. If it is said that it is present attachment to qualities that are not thrown by ignorance, but it does not arise from the view of self, then even the knowledge of two moons and so on would become desire, because it depends on ignorance, and before the arising of harm, it is present attachment to qualities that are not true by the characteristic of truth. With the thought of enjoying the result of abiding in one's own nature, just as one enters into contaminated things, one does not go beyond the causal characteristic of desire anywhere. Then, after showing the nature of desire in that way, what is intended to be said as the opposite of that is said as compassion and so on. Compassion and so on are not preceded by present attachment to self and so on. The meaning of the word 'and so on' is love and so on. If one wants to say it like that, then say it in the way it is said.
